Chinese sturgeon (Acipenser sinensis) is the prototype of the mascot for the 9th China Yangtze River Three Gorges International Tourism Festival, called the Baby Chinese Sturgeon. It is the most representative fish in Yangtze River in the Chinese animal protection at the national level. The earliest sturgeon appeared 230 million years ago, and still survives today, becoming the living fossil.

The committee calls the mascot as Baby Chinese Sturgeon to appeal environment protection. In addition, Chinese pronunciation of Baby Chinese Sturgeon is “Xun Bao”, which is the same as the Chinese pronunciation of “treasure hunt”, indicating the festival encourages to explore the literality and culture along Yangtze River to the Three Gorges. The Baby Chinese Sturgeon looks friendly and recognizable with a lovely appearance and a bright color.
