Chongqing - “We couldn't have chosen a better location for our test: the absolutely mind-blowing city of Chongqing.” says the latest episode of The Grand Tour, a well-known motoring television series produced by Amazon Studios.

The Episode 6 of this year's The Grand Tour takes us on a trip around Chongqing. In addition to the thrilling car challenge, it also presents the global audience with the modern face of this secret metropolis of southwestern China.

Ideal location for car challenge

The episode began with Jeremy Clarkson, one of the three presenters, driving the made-in-China luxury car Hongqi L5 around Chongqing city. This mega city of China is famous for its unique landscape and super complicated transport system.

As the car passing through the downtown, you will definitely be amazed by the roads that are multi-leveled everywhere. Also, the presenters witnessed the famous scene that you can only find in Chongqing: a metro train passing through a residential building at Liziba.

The team filmed in Chongqing last summer. Known as the furnace of China, the sweaty and humid hot summer in Chongqing seemed to be a huge challenge for the team besides the cars. However, even when the temperature hits 40 ºC, for those who have been to Chongqing for the first time, the Hot Pot is still a must-try.

The ultra-modern face of Chongqing

When speaking of “Chongqing” and “car”, the unique multi-level road system of this place is not the only connection. Actually, Chongqing is the main manufacturing center of China. As of now, it has 14 car makers, and people call it "the capital of China’s motorcycle industry".

Additionally, the automobile industry in Chongqing is developing towards intelligence-and-new energy-oriented with a number of new models on the market. Also, industries such as equipment, chemical, pharmaceutical, material, and consumer goods have steadily increased.

Although The Grand Tour is a motoring television series, it is particularly interesting, from a different angle of the presenters, to be amazed at the ultra-modern face of Chongqing.
