On February 20, the sponge city built by Yuelai Ecologic City in Liangjiang New District added another new landmark in Chongqing. The central plaza of Yuelai Ecologic City made its debut here. In the future, it will become the commercial center, public service center and transportation hub of Yuelai Ecologic City.
Yuelai Ecologic City completed the construction of the intelligent system project of the central plaza a few days ago. The project mainly includes a video monitoring system, public address system and door entry system of parking lots. It is a city plaza integrating intelligence and ecology.
The Intelligent Central Plaza at Yuelai Sponge City
It presents an overall layout of “two axes, one ring, and one center”. One axis is the pedestrian streamline, the other one is a line of sight caused by terrain differences. “One ring” is a ring road that runs through the whole planning area to meet the needs of bus stops. “One center” is a rain garden built around the Ecologic Bubble. It has become a “cell body” and an experimental field in the sponge city.
to relieve drainage pressure
Yuelai Ecologic City in Liangjiang New District is one of the first 16 sponge cities in China. It has basically completed the building of a sponge city with an area of 18.67 square kilometers. It has also built typical sponge city projects such as a riverside sponge park and sponge city exhibition center. The projects are of prominent ecological dividends; therefore, Chongqing will gradually promote the pattern mode of this ecologic city.
One road with green plants at Yuelai Sponge City
The sponge construction of the central plaza has become a bright spot of Yuelai Ecologic City. The reservoir, bio-swale, drainage ditch, storage pond, and filter pond can collect, purify and reuse rainwater in Yuelai central park. They can keep the annual runoff discharge rate of the central plaza lower than 40.77%. Meanwhile, they help the annual total runoff control rate reach 77.22%. Furthermore, they can reduce the loss of rainwater resources, control water pollution, and relieve drainage pressure in surrounding areas.
By the end of next year, over 20% of the built-up areas in Chongqing will meet the sponge city standard. By 2030, this figure will rise to be 80%.
