The four new routes cover two mixed passenger or freight flights by two airlines. They are Chongqing-Vientiane and Chongqing-Manila via China Express Airlines and Chongqing-Shizuoka and Chongqing-Nagoya via Sichuan Airlines. Besides, the successful opening of direct flights will greatly shorten the distance between the two places and save time for passengers.

On January 11 this year, Sichuan Airlines opened its charter flight from Chongqing to Mandalay. That also marks the first new international route opened by Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport this year. So far, the Airport has opened 83 international (regional) routes, including 69 passenger routes and 14 freight routes, gradually building a network of passenger and freight routes covering Europe, USA, Australia, Asia, and Africa. Among its international (regional) passenger routes opened, there are 19 intercontinental routes. The destinations cover London, Rome, New York, Melbourne, Moscow, Los Angeles, Sydney, Chicago, Toronto, and so on.

Chongqing to the world in the future

It is hopeful that by 2020, Chongqing will have about 100 international and regional routes. Its passenger throughput will exceed 50 million and international passenger throughput will reach five million. Meanwhile, the cargo throughput will achieve one million tons, which helps Chongqing to build a global route network system. Furthermore, the terminal T3B and the fourth runway of the Airport will strive to start operations this year. In addition, that will meet the demand of 70 million passengers per year. Data shows that the number of air trips per capita in China is expected to exceed one in 2021-2035. The proportion of passenger turnover in comprehensive transportation will exceed 1/3. Furthermore, the number of transport airports will reach about 450, with 100 kilometers of ground covering all county-level administrative units.
