On March 12, the first regular train of “New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC)” departed from Chongqing Guoyuan Port

Two days after the departure, it will arrive at Qinzhou Port in Guangxi. Afterward, transferred there, the cargo will reach Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong, Jakarta, and Chennai in Southeast Asia. In addition, the 10-day transport can save half of the time of the previous transfer via the Yangtze River channel.

Meanwhile, the point of departure also witnessed the launch ceremony of trains through the “transport between railway and enterprises”. According to Chongqing Guoyuan Port, the leading locomotive can achieve direct transportation between the railway and enterprises after the launch. In this way, without the international trains departing from the port, there will be higher logistics efficiency.

Chongqing Guoyuan Port is the largest inland rail-road-water hub port in China

Chongqing Guoyuan Port is the largest inland rail-road-water hub port in China. As of now, there have been 16 5,000-ton berths completed and put into use in the wharf apron. The port, therefore, has basically realized the development pattern of “port + logistic park”. In the meantime, the multi-modal transport of rail, road and water transportation has taken shape as well. Furthermore, it has a throughput capacity of 800,000 TEUs, 6 million tons of break-bulk/bulk cargo and 700,000 commodity vehicles (roll-on/roll-off). Besides, the carrying capacity of the railway reaches 5 million tons.

The golden waterway of the Yangtze River

To develop multimodal transport, it will give full play to the role of the Yangtze River as the golden waterway.

At the end of December 2017, the first train of the China Railway Express (Chongqing) departed from Chongqing Guoyuan Port. Its opening marks the realization of seamless connection with the Yangtze River. It has also linked with the “last mile” between the “Belt and Road” Initiative and Yangtze River Economic Belt. The China Railway Express (Chongqing) from Germany Mannheim Harbor arrived at Chongqing Guoyuan Port in October 2018. The successful operation of this train has improved the port’s multimodal transport system as well.

Undoubtedly, the departure of the first ILSTC train from Chongqing Orchard Port on March 12 was another milestone event to establish the system.
