Chongqing Tongliang Native Custom Marathon Kicked Off

At 8:30 a.m. on March 24, 2019, Chongqing Tongliang Native Custom Marathon started with the starting gun going off at the People’s Park, Tongliang District. Nearly 10,000 runners enjoyed the beautiful scenery and ecological beauty of Tongliang on the course full of native custom. The event was organized by Chongqing Administration of Sport and People’s Government of Tongliang District.

The prize money totals over RMB 100,000, with RMB 10,000 going to the pocket of the champion for half marathon. The top 50 of half marathon will be given cash rewards.

The event pulled in 2,000 marathon runners from six countries such as China, Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania to compete in the half marathon. After fierce competition, Kidiegetachewmasresha from Ethiopia won the men’s half marathon championship with the gun performance of 1:03:10 and took RMB 10,000 home, and DAGNESIRANESHYIRGA won the women's with 01:12:14.

Zhao Hao, a much-anticipated Chongqing runner, won third place. He said: “The course in Tongliang and today’s weather are perfect for running. I’m very glad to set a new record for my best score for half marathon here! The course section of Xuantianhu Reservoir is really beautiful!”
