Wujiang Road Phase III Officially Put into Service

On March 29, the reporter learned from the Official Wujiang Road Phase III Opening Ceremony of Jiangbei District that Wujiang Road Phase III, the municipal key project, has been officially put in service. Now, the drives can drive directly into the Shuangbei Bridge from Ranjiaba without going around the Shimahe Interchange, more convenient for the residents in Shimahe area to travel.

Wujiang Road Phase III has been officially put into service.

Wujiang Road Phase III is located in Shimahe area, with the Park Interchange at the east approach of Shuangbei Bridge on the west and the Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital on the east. It is of a two-lane triple-carriageway structure, and it will contribute to a great diversion for traffic flow of the Shimahe Interchange. Vehicles from the Shuangbei Bridge are able to enter Ranjiaba or the Inner Ring Expressway directly via Wujiang Road Phase III without going around the Shimahe Interchange. This means that here comes the west-east corridor of the Shimahe area, namely the shortcut from the “University Town” to Ranjiaba.

“This project will not only facilitate the travel of tens of thousands of residents along it, but will also further improve the infrastructure conditions in the area and thus enhance the road capacity there.” According to a director of Jiangbei District Urban Construction and Development Co., Ltd., the Project Management Company, as another important transport node of the inner ring rapid transit system, Wujiang Road Phase III will further help optimize the road network system in the downtown area, and promote the economic and industrial exchanges between the Xiyong area in Shapingba District and Jiangbei District, Yubei District, Liangjiang New Area.

Wujiang Road Phase III involves 1 urban trunk road, 2 ramps connecting the Inner Ring Expressway and the widening of the Park Interchange, with a total investment of RMB 427 million. Its mainline overpasses the Inner Ring Expressway, being an urban trunk road with the two-lane triple-carriageway structure. The design speed is 50 km/h; the total length is about 759m, and the overpass length is about 335m. Ramp A stretches from the Shuangbei Bridge to the north of the Inner Ring Expressway, with a total length of about 494m and with one 245m-long tunnel. Ramp B runs from the north of the Inner Ring Expressway to the Shuangbei Bridge, with a total length of about 260m and with one 133m-long continuous girder bridge.

According to a director of Jiangbei District Urban Construction and Development Co., Ltd., all organizations involved in the Project have made great efforts in both design and construction. In the early stage of the Project, the design team proposed 5 optional optimization schemes of the connection between the Project and the Inner Ring Expressway, and after several rounds of comparison study and demonstration, finally determined to adopt step-by-step backfilling with landscape creation for the tunnel. This helped solve the challenges with soil tunnel construction. The Project involved major bridges and tunnels, as well as 36m-high pier column, high slope and deep foundation pit works, so there were extremely high requirements for construction accuracy and safety. In addition, the design team overcame the difficulties in relation to traffic management during construction. Since the mainline of Wujiang Road Phase III overpasses the Inner Ring Expressway, it was designed to carry out special temporary traffic management during both pouring and hoisting of the overpass to guarantee a smooth inner ring traffic.

According to a director from Jiangbei Commission of Housing and Urban-rural Development, in 2019, Jiangbei District will see 7 key projects co-sponsored by Chongqing Municipality and its subordinate districts, namely Guojiatuo Bridge, Zengjiayan Bridge, Chongqing~Changshou Expressway Realignment Connecting Road, Hongyan Village Bridge, Hongtudi Interchange, Panxi Interchange, and Mahuangliang Interchange Reconstruction; several district-level key projects with the planned investment is RMB 260 million in total, under the direction of Jiangbei Commission of Housing and Urban-rural Development as the employer; 1 key new project, namely Drainage Pipe Network Project on the West Side of Keji Elementary School; and 8 continuing projects, namely Wujiang Road Interchange, Jianxin West Road Phase IV (Shimen~Zhonghai), Road to the North Side of Tangjiaqiao Wastewater Treatment Plant, Road to the West Side of Zhongyi Yangmingshanshui Community, Chang'an Middle Road Phase II, Dongyuan D7 Community Road, Surrounding Roads of 1862 Project, and Road to the West Side of Liangjiang Elementary School, among them, the first 4 projects are planned to be completed in 2019.
