Chongqing- Rashid Alimov, former secretary general of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) took an interview with iChongqing in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality May 14, 2019, hours before the opening ceremony of 2019 SCO Heads of Region Meeting.

“Every visit to Chongqing is surprising”
Rashid Alimov said that every time in Chongqing is to witness a big event, and last year he had been the megacity in Southwest China for four times. “Every visit to Chongqing is surprising,” the former general of SCO said and added that, “There are daily changes, not only the city’s new look but also its people’s mental outlook.”
When asked about his impression on the city during his visits here, Mr. Alimov praised Chongqing as one of the largest cities in the world sets a good example for the world in terms of harmonious development.
In his eyes, Chongqing is arguably a unique city worldwide for its amazing development in economy, society, agriculture, industrial output, science and technology, education and culture. “Chongqing is also a modern metropolis, which values its history, and is promising for further development,” continued Mr. Alimov.
“WCIFIT serves as a good platform for SCO countries to display themselves”
“2019 SCO Heads of Region Meeting is meaningful for SCO countries to conduct economic and trade cooperation between, and eight SCO member states and more than 200 regions have their own advantages and complementary to each other,” said Alimov.
The 2nd Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT) will be held at Chongqing International Expo Center from May 16th to 19th, 2019, almost the same time with the SCO meeting.
The former secretary general of SCO noted, “WCIFIT serves as a good platform for SCO countries to display themselves.”
"It shows s promising prospect"
Under the framework of the forum, local leaders will exchange views on how to strengthen better cooperation between regions. During this period, Chongqing will undoubtedly become the focus of the SCO countries. At the same time, this is also very important for SCO. “Today is just a beginning, but it shows a promising prospect," said Mr. Alimov.
About 2019 SCO Heads of Region Meeting
2019 SCO Heads of Region Meeting is scheduled from May 14 to 16 and themed with “Upholding Openness and Inclusiveness for New Opportunities of the SCO Regional Cooperation”. Moreover, sub-events involve the Economy and Trade Investment Dialogue Session, the Splendid New Silk Road Cultural and Tourism Cooperation and Promotion Meeting, the Pilot Free Trade Zone Matchmaking and Communication Meeting, and the project signing ceremony.
