The First Chongqing-Hong Kong-Macao Counselor Annual Meeting Held in Chongqing

To further strengthen links between Chongqing and Hong Kong & Macao, deepen cooperation among the three sides, actively integrate into the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area for short), and co-build the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government held the first Chongqing-Hong Kong-Macao Counselor Annual Meeting (the Annual Meeting for short) on June 24. Representatives in business, finance, science & technology, culture & tourism, education and other fields from Hong Kong, Macao, and other places offered advice for advancing cooperation among these three cities.

Chongqing municipal Hong Kong & Macao counselors will be the think tank for Chongqing’s opening-up and development to facilitate exchanges among the three sides and make efforts for Chongqing to find more partners and jointly build the BRI.

Ma Haowen, Member of the National Committee of CPPCC and President of the General Chamber of Commerce of Chongqing-Hong Kong, said that Hong Kong was striving to promote the construction of the Greater Bay Area, in which Chongqing could actively seek development opportunities because of its unique regional advantages in the construction of the BRI. Chongqing’s enterprises are encouraged to go out relying on Hong Kong’s international financial benefits and to disseminate Chongqing’s unique culture. Ma indicated that more enterprises should increase input in scientific research, conduct in-depth cooperation with colleges and universities, and cultivate the much-needed innovative talent of science and technology. He also suggested that Chongqing connect with world-class talented people working in the Greater Bay Area and develop by utilizing their wisdom.

Liu Yahuang, Member of the National Committee of CPPCC and President of Chongqing-Macao Friendship Association, indicated that this year was the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland. He said it was his honor and duty to attend the Annual Meeting in this special year. He also believed that the attendees from Hong Kong and Macao would actively play the role of "1+N" and lead more overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao to invest and develop in Chongqing.
