What are the Latest Development of Projects Signed at SCE 2018?

Chongqing- The second Smart China Expo or SCE 2019 is approaching and scheduled to open on August 26 in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality.

Chongqing is firmly committed to the innovation-driven development led by big-data intelligence. In the past year, especially after the first SCE, China’s Internet giants such as Alibaba Group, Tencent, Baidu, and JD.com have acted quickly and expanded their layouts in Chongqing. These giants keep a close eye on the digital economy and seek win-win cooperation.

As of June 30 this year, 36 of 46 projects assigned at the contract-signing ceremony of SCE2018 have settled, according to relevant departments. Specifically, seven projects entering production or operation, namely, power semiconductor base, Inventec Phase Ⅱ,Cisco and Chongqing University of Posts and Communications Industrial Internet Research Institue, Donghu High-Tech Liangjiang Semiconductor Industrial Park, Xinshi TV technological project, high-end medical device industry china strategic cooperation and the infrastructure for Chongqing Western Big Data Center.

Moreover, 108 of 270 off-site contracted projects enter their production or operation.

Some of those projects, both signed at the ceremony or off-site, focused on intelligent manufacturing research, big data development, aerospace information research and development, automotive, industrial Internet, artificial intelligence chips, intelligent equipment, public network safety, wearable devices, and smart city construction.

Government-enterprise joint efforts

It is necessary for the government and enterprise work together towards big data intelligence development and for a favorable business environment.

Liangjiang New Area signed many contracts with relevant entities at the first SCE last year. As of now, there have been 22 operating projects, nine projects starting construction, and four registered. In January 2018, Liangjiang New Area and Alibaba signed an agreement, and the company's midwestern headquarters settled in the new area.  In January 2019, it was put into use and officially decided. Moreover, Tencent announced at SCE 2018 that its southwest regional headquarters would be located in Liangjiang New Area.  And the headquarters will be put into use this August.  Up to now, the number of team members based in Chongqing has exceeded 1,100 people and is expected to exceed 1,500 by the end of the year.

"From SCE 2018, then the project-signing to its official operation, we only spent five months in total," said Peng Xin, operating director of Microsoft Cloud & MobileTechnology Incubation Program, an artificial intelligence accelerator project in Chongqing. Since the Smart China Expo, he has witnessed the efficient cooperation between Microsoft and the Yubei District People's Government in less than one year, and the changes in Xiantao International Big Data Valley.

A grand event, the Smart China Expo alike, attracts international sources and wisdom.

Jack Ma, founder, and chairman of Alibaba group has visited Chongqing three times and endeavors to build Chongqing as a city of new retail and new logistics. Alibaba Cloud Innovation Center (Chongqing) was officially put into use in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area this June. And the national new area will rely on the core technology of Alibaba Cloud City to create a smart city digital platform project, which will help the Liangjiang New Area to achieve digital and intelligent transformation and upgrading in the fields of transportation, parking, medical care, education, and urban management. Cuntao, Alibaba's e-commerce platform designed for people living in rural areas, covers 21 districts and counties of Chongqing and promotes local produce to go for a broader market. Moreover, Alipay, a popular cashless payment in China, serves public affairs in the city.

Tencent chairman Pony Ma has been in Chongqing for four times to promote the digital economy industry and people's livelihood. Chongqing Tencent Cloud Computing Data Center is currently undergoing Phase II construction. The total project covers an area of ​​nearly 300 mu (20 hectares) with a total investment of more than 10 billion yuan. It is expected to form a computing service capacity of 200,000 servers after completion and will become the largest single data center in western China. Tencent also sets up the first Tencent Cloud Big Data College in the west to create a school-enterprise cooperation model and achieves all-round integration of talent cultivation and industrial needs.
