ILSTC Regular Train (Guoyuan Port) Ushers In Its Normal Operation

By Rui Hu, EDITOR

Recently, a regular train of “New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC),” loaded with goods, departed from Guoyuan Port to Qinzhou Port East Station via the exclusive railway line of Chongqing Guoyuan Bulk Cargo Wharf Co., Ltd, marking the regular operation of the train.

Guoyuan Port

This special train carries ferromanganese, sulfuric acid disodium, fiberglass, and other products, totaling 25 groups of containers (including four large ones and 42 small ones).  After arriving at Qinzhou Port East Station, those products will be distributed to the rest of the world through Chittagong in Bangladesh.

The regular operation of the train facilitates the export of cargo in a more efficient and low-cost way. Moreover, it will significantly enhance the Liangjiang New Area’s radiation capacity to the goods of countries along the Belt and Road routes, as well as provinces and cities around Chongqing, helping the area to build an international logistics distribution center in inland China.

Following the first departure of ILSTC regular train from Guoyuan Port in March this year, the Guoyuan Port located in Liangjiang New Area gathered a number of international logistics hubs, including the China Railway Express (Chongqing), Golden Waterway of the Yangtze River and ILSTC, further accelerating Chongqing’s efforts to build itself into an exemplary city of opening-up in inland China.

Notably, 12 of the 42 small containers were transported from Guoyuan Port through rail-water intermodal transport. The continuous enhancement of the rail-water intermodal transport capacity enables Guoyuan Port to become a port of transshipment for foreign trade goods in areas such as Sichuan Province, Guizhou Province, Yunnan Province, Shaanxi Province, and Guangxi Province.

The Liangjiang New Area is speeding up its construction of multimodal transport system. In the first half of this year, the cargo throughput of Guoyuan Port reached 6.37 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 38%, of which 26,600 TEUs were transported by rail and water, a year-on-year increase of 35%.

The departure of the special train highlights the function of Guoyuan Port as an essential port node of the rail-sea intermodal transport of ILSTC, effectively accelerating the process of building the port into a logistics collection and distribution hub toward Southeast Asia.

Taking advantage of several open platforms including China (Chongqing) Pilot Free Trade Zone (CFTZ), China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI) and Chongqing Lianglu-Cuntan Free Trade Port Area (CFTA), Liangjiang New Area is speeding up efforts to build itself into a gateway for opening-up in inland China.
