One production line, transformed for energy-saving, can save 3 million RMB per year, and it is a Chongqing-headquartered start-up named Voltmao that has made such 'magic' possible. “Examining enterprises through hardware and data, we will help them cut 5% to 20% of energy consumption on production lines. Currently, over 2,000 enterprises have adopted our solutions,” said Yang Jiannan, Head of Voltmao. He added that within the short three years since its establishment, the company had gained over 200 million RMB of annual sales revenue.

At present, a new round of science and technology revolution and industrial reforms are in full swing. The integrative development of digitalization, networking, and intellectualization are the priorities for the transformation and development of the real economy. Chongqing, with its substantial manufacturing industry in Western China, has grasped this opportunity. Chongqing gives momentum to the in-depth combination of artificial intelligence and the real economy, and a boost to develop the high-level smart economy. The first Smart China Expo (SCE), successfully held in Chongqing in August 2018, has been the powerhouse for this process.
SCE has in part spawned several significant developments, including, the relocation of Cloud Service Headquarters and Digital Factory of Tsinghua Unigroup; as well as the operation of the Chongqing Innovation Center of Huawei, and the settling down of the Regional Headquarters of Alibaba Group in Central and Western China. In a year since the SCE, a lot of flagship enterprises have been arranging their smart businesses in Chongqing. “Within a year, the Liangjiang New Area has seen the operation of 22 projects in the smart industry, with the contracted investment amount of 6.13 billion RMB. Nine projects are under construction, with the contracted investment amount of 12.46 billion RMB,” Wang Zhijie, Executive Deputy Director of Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, expressed.
“In the future, drivers will no longer need to risk their lives in severe environments or dangerous areas, but handle the car from a certain distance away.” At Xiantao Big Data Valley, Yubei District, a technicist was presenting the remote driving. It is a demonstration project of 5G-supported self-driving on open roads and China’s first 5G self-driving public service platform, which can provide testing service for over ten auto enterprises. Public smart service platforms like Huawei (Chongqing) DevCloud Innovation Center and the Industrial Big-data Innovation Center are accelerating construction, bringing more possibilities to artificial intelligence (AI) techniques.
The smart industry also experiences rapid development, which brings new vigor and vitality into the local traditional manufacturing industry.
In a plant of Jinkang New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., stamping, welding, coating, final assembly, all the procedures have been complicated by over 800 machines. In the plant, the automation rate of welding has reached 100%, and it is the robots that handle the procedures of gumming, trimming, station-to-station convey, and loading. Currently, Chongqing has promoted 298 intellectualized reconstruction projects for enterprises and recognized 178 city-level digitalization plants and smart factories.
Six laser radars, five millimeter-wave radars, six cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors...with the key equipment, Chang’ an Automobile is more intelligent. “Our autonomous driving technology has reached L4 standard, and the highest safe driving speed has risen from 20 km/h to 40 km/h,” said Liang Fenghua, Director of Smart Driving Department of Chang’an Automobile.
“Last year, the smart industry celebrated an annual sales revenue of over 460 billion RMB, with the growth rate of over 10%,” said Wu Cunrong, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor of Chongqing. As the Second SCE is drawing near, Chongqing will make it the flagship event for digital industrialization and industrial digitalization and enable smart technology to empower the economy and enrich life.
