Memories of Love

Memories of Love is a courtyard outdoor theatre experience.

Chongqing Wang’s Courtyard, situated in Danzishi Old Street, Nan’an District, was built in 1790. The play was staged in the courtyard, where the audience and the actors could interact, as the dozens of actors scattered on the stage, the winding corridor and among the audience. On the stage, a combination of 3D projection and actors create a marvelous scene; in the corridor, the salt snowing from the sky provided an audio-visual feast; in the yard, the audience were delighted as the actors were within their reach.

At this site of the legendary family, the production team presented an ode to the two-century-old eternal story of businessmen in Chongqing via a courtyard play.

The show was produced by The Memory Team, a renowned tourism performing art production team in China.

Mr. Yi Shuo, the chief scriptwriter, and chief director has co-produced several works with the teams of Mr. Zhang Yimou and Wang Chaoge, including Impression Wulong, Encore Pingyao, Encore Mount Wutai, and Encore Dunhuang.

Previously, the large-scale epic drama Qidan Dynasty and the 3D immersive drama Dream in the Bund have both won extensive praise in the theatre circle. Born in Chongqing, Yi returned to his hometown today to dig into the local culture from a perspective of Chongqing businessmen and further to write the context of the Chongqing spirit.

By the technique of modern environmental theatre, Memories of Love combines the ancient courtyard with a high-tech holographic projection to create an in-depth emotional and visual experience.
