243rd American Independence Day Celebration Reception held in Chongqing

Chongqing — To celebrate the 243rd anniversary of American independence and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, the Consulate General of the United States in Chengdu held a reception in Chongqing on August 23. Ms. Pan Yiqin, Vice Mayor of Chongqing and Mr. Jim Mullinax, Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu, attended the reception and delivered a speech.

China and the United States formally established diplomatic relations in 1979. The reception, in the form of a photo exhibition, reviewed the development of China-U.S. relations during the past 40 years. From Panda Diplomacy to the China-U.S. friendship volunteer project, the relationship between America and China has come a long way over the past 40 years.

In Mayor Pan’s speech, she said the exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing and the United States in various fields had been continuously deepened and expanded, economic and trade cooperation has been strengthened, and connectivity has become more convenient since the establishment of diplomatic relations. Chongqing will implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's diplomatic imperatives of building a community of shared future for humankind, make unremitting efforts to develop the long-term, healthy and stable cooperative relations between China and the United States, and jointly create a brighter future for the peoples of two countries.

Consul GeneralJim Mullinax said that in recent years, the U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu has attached great importance to cooperation with Chongqing, and continuously promoted the exchange of visits at the governmental level, cultural, educational and trade exchanges, which has enhanced mutual understanding and promoted the prosperity of both sides.
