Chongqing and Tsinghua Unigroup Sign Agreement on Memory Chip Base

Chongqing - The Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and Tsinghua Unigroup signed cooperation agreement on the company’s industrial base of storage chip during the 2019 Smart China Expo in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality. It aims to promote high-quality development of first-class smart technology.

Meanwhile, the Chongqing Economy and Informatization Commission and the Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee signed a project investment cooperation agreement in a bid to further promote the construction of the chip industry base in Liangjiang New Area.

According to the agreement, Tsinghua Unigroup takes the initiative to set up Uni Guoxin IC Co., Ltd. and Chongqing UniIC Industry Fund and establishes the business group headquarters of Tsinghua Unigroup DRAM, and Tsinghua Unigroup Science and Technology Park. This factory will produce DRAM (memory) storage chips.

The factory is scheduled to start construction at the end of this year and is expected to operational by 2021.

Memory is widely used in mobile phones, personal computers, enterprise servers, data centers, and other fields.

The signed project of the storage chip industry base will significantly promote the development of the integrated circuit industry in Chongqing, and even China. It is of great strategic significance for Chongqing to participate in the international and domestic markets to promote the intelligent development industry, to improve the development of the economy and society.

Integrated base with R&D, production and upstream and downstream enterprises

Uni Guoxin IC Co., Ltd. will endeavor to make a core industry group of world-class memory chips.

Moreover, Uni Chongqing Memory Chip Factory mainly focuses on the manufacture of 12-inch DRAM memory chips, by taking advantage of the research and development as well as industrialization experience of Tsinghua Unigroup in the memory field from design, production, testing, solution construction to global mass production and sales.

It is worth mentioning that the R&D center of the DRAM headquarters of Tsinghua Unigroup also settled in Liangjiang New Area and its DRAM business group was established at the end of June this year.

Tsinghua Unigroup Science and Technology Park takes the development and design of memory chips as the leader, integrates the industrial resources of the groups, and introduces the upstream and downstream enterprises of the industrial chain to create an internationally competitive technology park.

Through this storage chip industry base project, Tsinghua Unigroup will further improve the mobile chip design as a breakthrough, the storage chip manufacturing with intensified efforts, and connect the industrial chain from the chip to the cloud.

In the future, Tsinghua Unigroup’s memory products will be cooperative items with global companies to achieve the matching, inspection, and tuning of chip and system applications, and quickly realize the transfer of technological innovation to win the market.

Intelligent industry in Liangjiang New Area toward high-end

The project will be conducive to attract upstream and downstream IC enterprises to develop significant projects such as core infrastructure components and critical infrastructure materials, and form a multi-billion-yuan strategic industrial cluster in the new area and Chongqing.

At present, there are 12 IC design companies in Chongqing, including 4 in Liangjiang New Area. In addition to IC design companies, Liangjiang New Area has three integrated circuit manufacturing companies.

The project will be built with the semiconductor industry as the core and IC design as the focus, involving automotive electronics, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, intelligent terminals, and other industries.
