Chongqing’s Smart Tourism Presented at Helsinki Tourism Summit

On September 3, the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) Helsinki Tourism Summit 2019 was held in Finland. More than 500 delegates from nearly 100 cities of 56 countries attended the summit, and among them, Pan Yiqin, Deputy Mayor of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, made a keynote speech.

Taking Better City Life through Tourism as its core idea, WTCF is the first global international tourism organization with cities as its main body, and it is reputed to be the fastest-growing international tourism organization. At present, it comprises 145 city members, 73 institutional members and six branches, among which the city members cover 73 countries and regions worldwide.

As the paramount annual activity of WTCF, the Tourism Summit has been held for seven times, at which the Beijing Declaration, the Chongqing Declaration, and the Los Angeles Declaration were released successively. Helsinki Tourism Summit, following the theme of Smart Tourism: Road to City Innovation and Development, attracted more than 500 delegates from nearly 100 cities of 56 countries, 37 mayors from tourism cities around the world, as well as heads of international organizations such as the United Nations World Tourism Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The Chongqing Delegation, a council member of WTCF, carried out a series of activities including cultural tourism promotion and resource exhibition during the summit. At the theme forum, Deputy Mayor Pan Yiqin, on behalf of Chongqing, delivered a keynote speech on Smart Tourism: Promoting Superb Development and Creating Quality Life.

In recent years, Chongqing takes the smart industry as the most significant variable and increment to realize economic transformation and improve the comprehensive strength of the city. It has held the Smart China Expo for two consecutive years and integrated technology, innovation, intelligence, wisdom and other new elements into the city’s image, and the performance indicators of the Smart Holistic Tourism continue climbing. According to the report released by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), Chongqing has topped the list of the world’s fastest-growing cities for tourism for two consecutive years. To further shape the new tourism image of A Land of Natural Beauty, A City with Cultural Appeal and A Tour in Chongqing, A Gain in Vision, Chongqing, led by big data intelligence, has vigorously promoted the development of the Smart Holistic Tourism and released a series of policy documents such as the Action Plan of Chongqing Municipality on Pursuing the Innovation-Driven Development Strategy with Big Data Intelligence as the Guidance (2018-2020) and the Action Plan of Chongqing Municipality on Smart Tourism Development 2017-2022 in succession, integrating scientific and technological elements into Chongqing’s tourist industry and making it more attractive.

Deputy Mayor Pan Yiqin pointed out that, 5G technology has been gradually put into use worldwide, which will certainly bring ample space for the tourist industry and promote the transformation and innovation of the production model of this industry. Chongqing will then accelerate the innovative use of big data intelligence, continue to encourage the construction of the tourism data center, improve the functions of the city’s smart tourism cloud and tourist industry operation monitoring platform, promote deep application of big data and cloud computing in the field of cultural tourism, boost precise management, convenient transportation and relaxing traveling of holistic tourism, thus realizing “better life through tourism”.
