China Mountain Marathon Series Closes at Chongqing Qianjiang Station

The 2019 China Mountain Marathon Series Qianjiang, Chongqing & Annual Finals closed on November 24 in Qianjiang District, Chongqing. Among 3,000-odd domestic and foreign contestants, local players Luo Tao and Zheng Wenrong won the 42km men’s and women’s titles respectively of Qianjiang Station as well as that of the Annual Finals.

The 2019 China Mountain Marathon Series Qianjiang closed on November 24 in Qianjiang District, Chongqing.

The competition was co-organized by the Chinese Mountaineering Association, Administration Sport of Chongqing, and Qianjiang District People’s Government. It comprises a mass fitness competition, a 23km individual event, and a 42km individual event with a total award of RMB 280,000. More than 3,000 contestants from 11 countries and regions entered the competition.

The competition officially kicked off at 9 a.m. Wang Yongfeng, Deputy Director at the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, and Qian Hong, a special guest and Olympic swimming champion, took the lead in the race. Having crossed over mountains and Apeng River, over 3,000 contestants ran towards another mountain by way of the urban canyon Balahu, the One River and Two Riversides rural tourism and leisure agriculture demonstration belt, Zhuoshui Ancient Town and some other scenic spots. It fully embodied the feature of mountainous-outdoor sports and the spirit of the marathon of “running towards the mountain, the road to inconceivable.”

At last, Luo Tao from Guizhou Province took the 42km men’s title, clocking 2 hours, 48 minutes and 38 seconds; Zheng Wenrong from Yunnan Province won the 42km women’s title, clocking 3 hours, 21 minutes and 2 seconds. Luo and Zheng also won the men’s and women’s races with total scores of 780 and 870, respectively, at the Annual Finals.
