Chinese Version of Drama Requiem Visits Chongqing

Based on excerpts from three novels by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, Hanoch Levin, an author hailed as the “Beckett of Israel,” bent himself to the masterpiece Requiem that exudes the life glory of “Born to Die” till his death. In 1999, the drama was well-received on its premiere at the Israel Cameri Theatre. With six Israeli Drama Academy awards, it has staged in Athens, Budapest, London, Berlin, Warsaw, Hanover, and Beijing, receiving great popularity all over the world.

Twenty years later, the drama is starred by Ni Dahong, a highly praised actor in China, and directed by Yair Sherman, an Israeli representative emerging director. The Chinese version of the drama is translated by Zhang Ping, a tenured professor of the Department of East Asian Studies of Tel Aviv University, with joint efforts of the Chinese senior production team and Israel’s outstanding stage art, lighting, modeling, and composition teams.
