On December 8, the Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) Test Base wholly-owned by China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI) was completed. The base is hailed as the largest comprehensive test and evaluation base for ICVs in Southwest China, and the first professional heavy-duty vehicle test base in the country.

Located in the Shuangqiao Economic & Technological Development Zone in Dazu District, the base bears a total investment of RMB 580 million and an area of 0.63 km2. It echoes and complements CAERI headquarters in automotive R&D and testing capabilities.
Compared with other domestic test sites, the Base incorporates over 80% of the functions of the traditional comprehensive large-vehicle test site. With high land utilization rate and various functional designs reaching the highest level in the country, it is capable of meeting the test needs of all road transport models within 55 tons.
At the same time, the base is home to the longest and widest linear performance test tracks with most lanes in China. With top-notch dynamic square design and the most test pavement types, it can provide a professional, convenient, and reliable test environment for various vehicles.
Relevant professionals from CAERI said that while providing test sites for domestic and foreign companies, the Base would capitalize on-site resources to meet the needs of modification and personalized customization on various vehicles. The base will also provide automobile companies with one-stop services integrating R&D, trial production, testing, improvement, detection, and certification, thus shortening the R&D and listing cycle of new products, improving companies’ competitive advantages, and propelling the development of the automotive industry.
In addition, the base will also provide a business service platform available for new product roll-out, model display, and large commercial vehicle photography for automobile companies. Utilizing the Base, CAERI will set up a high-end evaluation team to produce professional automobile evaluation programs in cooperation with automotive media, significantly increasing CAERI’s industry and regional influence.
