The New Teahouse, created and performed by Beijing Magnificent Culture Co., Ltd. in 2018, is a realism stage play, aiming to express artistic aesthetic tastes to the public and reach to their sincere hearts. Sponsored by China National Arts Fund, the New Teahouse connects the history from the initial period of the founding of the People’s Republic of China to days after the reform and opening-up.

The Teahouse has been widely-recommended not only for its high rating online but also for its honor as an ever-popular drama on China’s contemporary stage and the miracle on the Oriental stage praised by foreign intellectuals.

The younger generations, who adore this classic drama so much, will find the classical and imposing oriental esthetics revealed by Lao She (pen name of Shu Qingchun) via the freehand brushwork style, beyond the complex plots and bright historical backgrounds.

The New Teahouse is inspired by the Teahouse of Lao She. It takes three acts to show three historical periods during China’s modernization, from the founding of the PRC to the period after the reform and opening-up. By presenting stories happened in Beijing Yutai Teahouse, involuntary nobodies amid social trend and the compassionate feeling for all living in China, and with the humorous and comic dialogues in Beijing dialect, its miniatures the social changes from the 1950s to 1980s, covering three decades and influencing two generations.
