Chongqing Will Be A Host City for China 2023 AFC Asian Cup

China would host the Asian Cup in 2023, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced at its extraordinary congress in Paris on June 4, 2019. The Chinese Football Association (CFA) revealed that 19 cities in China had declared their interest in hosting games, and winners of them would be the focus of Asia.

On December 28, 10 host cities for China 2023 AFC Asian Cup was officially announced, including Chongqing, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi’an, Dalian, Qingdao, Xiamen, and Suzhou.

From April 20 to 30 this year, AFC inspected some candidate cities submitted by CFA. Among them, Chongqing was the first one to receive the inspection from April 20 to 21, involving Chongqing Liangjiang Football Match Centre Stadium and its training pitch, hotels for AFC officers and players, airport, transportation, municipal construction and development of football.

On top of that, AFC and CFA also conducted another random inspection of Chongqing. Fortunately, AFC expressed its satisfaction with what Chongqing has done.

According to the Evaluation Report on China 2023 AFC Asian Cup released by AFC, the Chongqing Liangjiang Football Match Centre Stadium on Longjiang Road under construction will be the venue for China 2023 AFC Asian Cup and also the first professional football stadium across the city. It has a net capacity of 44,000 and a total capacity of 46,800, with 920 VIP seats and 380 media seats.

After the inspection, the Preparation Office of China 2023 AFC Asian Cup sent a letter of thanks to Chongqing Administration of Sport, fully affirming Chongqing’s active efforts in the process of China’s successful bid for China 2023 AFC Asian Cup, and speaking highly of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and Chongqing Municipal People’s Government for attaching great importance to and actively building professional football stadium.

Chongqing is speeding up its construction of Chongqing Liangjiang Football Match Centre Stadium and its surrounding supporting facilities.
