Starting from December 30, people can take subways in Chongqing by scanning QR code through such apps as Yuchangxing, Alipay, WeChat, and Cloud QuickPass.

How to use the scan-to-ride QR code payment? Can the function enjoy a 1-hour free transfer? How does the scan-to-ride charge? To help people better use this new method, Chongqing Rail Transfer Group lists an FAQ.

Q1: How many fare gates at each station are equipped with the scan-to-ride system?

A typical station has two entry and two exit fare gates; one busy station has four entry and four exit fare gates.

Q2: Which payment platforms support the scan-to-ride?

Yuchangxing, Alipay, WeChat, and Cloud QuickPass.

Q3: How to use the scan-to-ride QR code payment?

Passengers should open the payment app to get the ride code in advance; hold up the ride code to the “yellow” scanner at the right front of the gate fare; pass through the fare gate after the information is verified. Passengers can still take the subway by holding the IC card over the card reader (the black area on the fare gate).

Q4: What should passengers pay attention to when using the scan-to-ride?

Please ensure the mobile phone has sufficient charge;

Make sure you open the ride code, instead of the payment code;

One ride code is for one person only; passengers should not bring people in with their payment app;

Please ensure the Union Pay card, WeChat or Alipay has enough balance;

Please get the ride code in advance to pass through the fare gate quickly;

If there is any problem, please contact the staff at the station timely to avoid unavailable scan-to-ride function;

Please make payment in time;

Scan-to-ride business shall follow regulations on ticket management of the Chongqing Rail Transit.

Q5: How does the scan-to-ride charge?

Passengers should check in first and pay later when using the scan-to-ride. Fares conform to the relevant regulations of Chongqing Rail Transit. Passengers shall follow the principle that “one code is for one person only; one code is for one entry/exit only; one entry/exit journey shall use the same app.” Fares will be deducted according to the entry/exit record and relevant regulations on ticket management of the Chongqing Rail Transit.

Q6: What is “supplementary journey recording”?

The payment platform will inform passengers about the unmatched one-way journey and ask them to record the actual departure and destination stations. Then, the platform will calculate and deduct the fare accordingly.

Q7: Is there any discount for the scan-to-ride?

The price caused by the scan-to-ride is the same as that of the one-way ticket. Additionally, people using the ride code cannot enjoy a 1-hour free transfer available in Chongqing Rail Transit and buses in the main urban areas. However, payment platforms will launch special offers irregularly.

Q8: Can passengers scan the ride code for others? Or can they capture the ride code and let others use it?

No. The ride code is only for personal use, following the principle that “one code is for one person only; one code is for one entry/exit only.” Using one code for consecutive entry or exit is not allowed. Passengers shall bear any financial risk caused by capturing the ride code for others to board the train/bus.

Q9: Why won’t passengers receive the notice for payment after exiting the fare gate?

First, there might be the payment latency; second, a one-way journey caused by specific reasons leads to the failure in fare deduction. The payment platform will inform passengers about the unmatched one-way trip and ask them to record the actual departure and destination stations.

Q10: What will happen if passengers use ride codes produced by different payment platforms to enter and exit the fare gates, respectively?

Although passengers can still enter and exit the fare gate, as usual, both of the two apps will develop one-way journeys (entering without exiting or exiting without entering). Passengers shall pay for the fares caused by supplementary trip recording.
