Sichuan, Chongqing and 22 Neighboring Cities, Districts and Counties on Integrated Development via Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle

The sixth meeting of the Central Committee for Financial and Economic Affairs was held on the afternoon of January 3. General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered an important speech, stressing that promoting the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle will help foster a growth pole for high-quality development in western China.

At Erping Town, Tongliang District, the 500 kV transformer substation was under smooth construction.

On January 6, Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal CPC Committee convened an enlarged session, noting that the city shall fully understand its role in the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and grow into a nationwide influential center of economy and scientific innovation, a new focus of reform and opening-up and a high-quality livable city.

Officers from departments of ecology and environment of Hechuan (Chongqing) and Guang’an (Sichuan) were monitoring the quality of the Jialing River at the junction.

On January 7, leaders of Chongqing Development and Reform Commission, Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission and 22 neighboring cities, districts and counties attended the Symposium on Integrated Development of Sichuan, Chongqing and Neighboring Areas via Sichuan-Chongqing Cooperation held at Tongnan District of Chongqing.

At Fenggaopu Station in Rongchang District, a Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed train (left) was running next to the old Chengdu-Chongqing Railway.

“Sichuan-Chongqing cooperation is now at a new crucial stage, where neighboring areas shall further upgrade their positions, grasp opportunities, work out plans and establish practical partnership, in a bid to present new achievements and make new breakthroughs during the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle construction,” said Mi Benjia, Deputy Director of Chongqing Development and Reform Commission.

He said that the Development and Reform Commissions of Sichuan and Chongqing to contribute to Sichuan-Chongqing cooperation and high-quality development of the Economic Circle as a leading party.

Deng Changjin, Deputy Director of Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission, said areas neighboring Sichuan and Chongqing needed to shoulder more responsibilities in performing major national strategies. They should play a greater part in enhancing transportation infrastructure construction, catalyzing modern industrial system building, improving coordinative and innovative development capability, optimizing land and space layout, perfecting ecological environment protection, stimulating institutional innovation and intensifying co-construction and co-sharing of public services. With such efforts, they can first see fresh progress in high-quality integrated development.

Attending heads also discussed issues such as promoting Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle construction, reinforcing strategic collaboration and coordination, establishing cooperation mechanisms, setting up cooperation platforms and driving key projects.
