Railways, Ports and Expressways Jointly Promote the Connectivity of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle

“The increasingly convenient transportation allows Chongqing citizens to travel to Chengdu and return on the same day, so a weekend is enough for their trip.” As a member of Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and a sightseeing bus guide of Chongqing Public Transport Holding (Group) Co., Ltd., Ke Yi thought the proposal of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle will promote the exchanges and development of tourism and transportation between the two cities, facilitate citizens’ travel and trips and bring new opportunities for the development of enterprises in the two cities.

Chengdu-Chongqing area as an essential transportation hub in Southwest China

Chongqing is the one and the only megalopolis in Southwest China that integrates water, land, and air transportation resources in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and one of the integrated transportation hubs.

Chengdu-Europe Express and the positioning of a state-level international aviation hub and an international rail freight hub provide Chengdu with the logistics platform support to build export production bases and European product trade distribution centers for the European market.

Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle to drive the economic development around

“It only takes less than 2-hour by high-speed train from Chongqing to Chengdu.” Ke Yi thought Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle would have a radiation effect on cities along the route after been put on the agenda. In terms of tourism, more tourist attractions will be connected, thus facilitating citizens’ travel and amusements and advancing the regional economy.

The expansion project of Chongqing-Suining Expressway  started

Though located in the inland, Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle boasts a relatively complete transportation network. As two major cities in Western China, Chengdu and Chongqing are about 300 kilometers apart. At present, they are connected by three expressways. However, with the increasingly frequent exchanges between the two cities in recent years, the expansion project of Chongqing-Suining Expressway has been successfully started at the end of 2019.

The expansion project is only the perfect transportation in miniature between Chengdu and Chongqing. In the future, the traffic system of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle will be improved significantly. The integrated construction of external transportation networks, including railways, ports, and expressways, will be further perfected. Meanwhile, the economic circle is going to strengthen the construction of the multimodal transport and logistics system, promote the development of integrated logistics and multimodal transport with seamless connection of “air, rail, road and water” in Western China and accelerate the formation of an important engine and a new growth pole for China’s economy.
