Chongqing New Coronavirus Update: 18 Newly Confirmed Cases Reported, More Measures Were Taken By Chongqing Government

  • The novel coronavirus caused one hundred sixty-five confirmed cases of pneumonia in Chongqing as of 24:00 January 29,  18 in serious conditions, and four in critical condition. One patient was cured and discharged from the hospital.
  • 7711 confirmed coronavirus cases on were the Chinese mainland as of January 29 at midnight; 1,370 serious cases and 170 deaths on the Chinese mainland; 124 cases cured and discharged from the hospital.
  • Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region reported the first confirmed case of novel coronavirus pneumonia Thursday, according to local health authorities.
  • The first batch of international donated protective materials arrived in Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, with 95 boxes of 250,000 masks.

Chongqing - Chongqing Municipal Health Commission announced that 165 confirmed patients have in Chongqing have pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), including 18 in serious condition, and 4 in critical condition. One patient has been cured and discharged from the hospital, according to Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, by the end of January 29.

Wulong District reported the first confirmed cases. Among newly confirmed cases,  seven in Wanzhou District, one in Yuzhong District, one in Jiangbei District, one in Nan'an District, one in Yubei District, one in Hechuan District, one in Jiangjin District, one in Hechuan District, one in Daxu District, two in Kaizhou District, one in Wulong District, one in Yunyang County, according to the municipal health authority.

Until now, 3,619 people who had close contact with the patients in Chongqing have been traced, 256 of them were released from medical observation, and 3,363 people still under medical observation.

To further strengthen the prevention and control of the epidemic caused by 2019-nCoV, Chongqing authorities launched a series of measures on January 29.

  • The Chongqing transportation bureau has applied a face recognition system to all the entrances of highways into Chongqing and implemented measures such as temperature detection to all the people in the vehicle. Any vehicle whose license plate is registered in Hubei province and any vehicle entering Chongqing from the direction of Hubei province shall be advised to leave.
  • Chongqing will carry out inspections of personnel of government authority, enterprises, institutions, as well as all kinds of organizations, to find out the whereabouts and contact person of people during the Spring Festival.
  • The municipal education commission issued a notice on further postponing the spring semester. Schools at all levels in the city (universities, primary and secondary schools, secondary vocational schools, kindergartens, nurseries,) will not be allowed to open before 24:00 on February 17, the notice said.
  • Ten supervision groups have been set up in Chongqing to supervise the prevention and control of the epidemic in the city's districts and counties from January 31, 2020, and hold those who fail to promote the prevention and control work accountable.
  • Since January 29, people who need to buy fever, cough, and other medicines from retail pharmacies need to register and complete the relevant information.
  • Before 24:00 on February 13, the catering service operators are prohibited from holding group dinners of any kind. Internet cafes, KTV, bath center, and other public entertainment places shall not be open for business.
  • The Chongqing transportation bureau will adjust the methods of the public transport operation. The city will improve rail transit, bus, taxi, and other public transport operations to reduce the number of people gathered.
  • Starting from January 29, 2020, passengers on public transportation in Chongqing, including city buses, rail transit, taxis, Yangtze River Cableway, Chongqing Grand Crown Escalators, coaches, and ferries, must wear masks. For passengers without masks, public transport operators are urging them to leave. Besides, the employees of public transport must wear masks on duty.
