Love Stories in an Epidemic: A Special Valentine’s Day

Chongqing - February 14 is a special day for most couples, in this year, this day is even more special for those who work in fighting against the COVID-19. They are Chongqing local doctors, policemen, community staff... their love stories show us a heartwarming and unforgettable valentine's day.

A Doctor couple supports Wuhan: get back home safely

In the COVID-19 epidemic, there is a Chongqing couple who are also respiratory experts, went to Hubei province as medical supports, one in Wuhan and one in Xiaogan, who are busy fighting the epidemic. Although they are not far apart, they cannot meet each other. On the front line of the epidemic, they encouraged each other by sending greetings via phones.

Liu Yuliang, assistant to the director of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, and his wife Xu Yu, an expert and associate professor of respiratory medicine at Xinqiao Hospital, Army Military Medical University, both went to Hubei province as the supporting medical team.

The medical staff from Chongqing were waiving, as they set off to Xiaogan, Hubei province

"I want to be closer to my wife."

Xu Yu went to Hubei earlier than him. On January 22, Liu Yuliang applied to support the front line in Hubei. "I'm a doctor in the respiratory department. This epidemic has a lot to do with the respiratory department. I think I should go." At that time, he was worried that the hospital would not approve because his wife was sent to Hubei already.

On the morning of New Year's Eve (January 24), Xu Yu was notified that she would go to Wuhan at 5:30 pm. On New Year's Eve, Xu Yu joined the Medical Support Team of the Xinqiao Hospital of the Army Military Medical University and entered the Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital for treatment.

The next day, a list of Chongqing medical teams supporting Hubei was announced, and Liu Yuliang also became a member of the medical team. However, he is not going to Wuhan, but Xiaogan.

"Xiaogan and Wuhan seem to us to be almost the same. I just want to be closer to my wife." Liu Yuliang said.

A few days ago, according to the arrangement, Xu Yu had transferred to Wuhan Huoshenshan (Vulcan Mountain) Hospital to be in charge of the intensive care unit.

Both of them were busy. Usually, Liu Yuliang couldn't stop working during the daytime. When it was time to call at night, Xu Yu often spent the night in the intensive care unit, and couldn't answer the phone, so he could only leave a message on WeChat. "We must go back safely," typed by Liu Yuliang, a message sent to his wife and to be supportive to each other.

Win the epidemic fight is the best engagement gift

"Engagement is a small thing when compared with the epidemic. Although it is a bit regrettable, but also very unforgettable, and this experience has strengthened our love in this special period."

On February 14, talking about the postponement of the engagement, Bai Tao, a doctor at the Simian Mountain Health Center in Jiangjin District, said.

His fiancée Tao Jing, a 25-year-old girl from Yunnan province, is also a doctor at the Simian Mountain Health Center. The third day of the first lunar month was a special day for their engagement, but the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 disrupted their plan. Since the first day of the new year (January 25), all employees of the Simian Mountain Health Center have canceled their vacations, and the whole hospital has called on duty to fight against the COVID-19.

Bai Tao's job is to distribute fever check-ups, home inspections, and epidemiological investigations. Tao Jing's job is to conduct telephone follow-up and visits to clinicians and medical observers and to take the body temperature of the epidemic checkpoint.

The two said that to win the epidemic stalemate together is to give each other the best engagement gift. Bai Tao made a vow to Tao Jing: "I will marry you after the epidemic has passed."

Holding hands and fighting together

One is a policeman, the other is a village official, Yang Qixin and Zheng Huiwen, a young couple from Beibei District, Chongqing, was scheduled to be engaged in the Spring Festival this year. Still, in the sudden outbreak, they made a joint decision: postpone the marriage and hold hands to resist the epidemic.

On Chinese New Year Eve, Yang Qixin and Zheng Huiwen received notices from their employers that "cancel holidays and fight against the epidemic." Working to fight against the epidemic is an order! This couple immediately decided to postpone their planned marriage registration and join the epidemic prevention and control work. From the first day (Jan.24) to present, Yang Qixin and Zheng Huiwen have been working the front line in Fuxing Street.

Yang Qixin's job is on duty at the checkpoint of the highway entrances, to check the vehicle personnel entering the jurisdiction; Zheng Huiwen's job is to visit the residents in the community and promote the knowledge of epidemic prevention and control. Although working in the same area, both of them are very busy and there was no opportunity to meet every day. "When the epidemic is over, we will get married in warm spring weather. Winning this fight is the best gift for our marriage!" Yang Qixin said.
