Chongqing COVID-19 Update:337 Confirmed Cases Hospitalized, Integrate TCM and Western Medicine

  • The overall confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 70,548 by the end of February 16. A total of 1,770 people have died of COVID-19, and altogether 10,844 people have been discharged from hospital after recovery.

  • The daily rate of China’s daily new confirmed cases of COVID-19 outside Hubei has been dropping for a thirteenth consecutive day.

Chongqing - As of 12:00 local time on February 17, Chongqing had reported 337 confirmed cases currently hospitalized (37 in severe condition and 13 in critical condition), five deaths, and 210 discharged patients after recovery, according to the Chongqing Municipal Health Commission Monday. All those cases had totaled 552 confirmed cases infected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as of Monday noon in Chongqing.

A total of 22,045 people who had close contacts with COVID-19 patients have been traced, 17,983 people have been released from medical observations, and 4,062 people are under medical observation.

The tenth municipal medical team with 160 members to support Hubei Province departed on Monday afternoon.  As of February 17, a total of ten municipal medial teams of 814 members had been dispatched to the epicenter of COVID-19.

Plasma donated at the Chongqing Blood Center

On Monday morning, two patients recovered from COVID-19, donated plasma at the Chongqing Blood Center, according to Chongqing Daily. It’s the first time in Chongqing to collect plasma from the patients who have been discharged after recovering from the virus.  At present, 15 recovered patients in Chongqing are willing to donate plasma. Moreover, the designated blood centers for plasma collection are the Chongqing Blood center in the downtown, and the blood stations of Wanzhou, Fuling, Qianjiang, and Nanchuan districts.

Traditional Chinese Medicine applied in COVID-19 treatment

Chongqing has established a collaboration mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine, and TCM has been applied in epidemic prevention and control and medical treatment.

A total of 24 famous TCM practitioners both at national and municipal levels selected have formed a municipal TCM expert group to participate in the treatment process in 4 hospitals for centralized treatment. They guided the medical institutions in the city to develop TCM services and proposed suggestions on epidemic prevention and treatment.  As of 24:00, February 15, TCM experts participated in the treatment of 459 confirmed cases, with a participation rate of 84.4%.

The hotline of 12315 for consumer complaints

During the epidemic prevention and control period, the five-into-one hotline of 12315 available for 24 hours facilitates the consumer to file complaints, integrating industrial and commercial affairs, quality supervision, food and drug, intellectual property, and price supervision.

The overall confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 70,548 by the end of Sunday, and 1,770 people had died of the disease, according to the National Health Commission (NHC) Monday. A total of 10,844 people had been discharged from the hospital after recovery. By the end of Sunday, 57 confirmed cases, including one death had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), ten confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 20 in Taiwan, including one death. Two patients in Hong Kong, five in Macao, and two in Taiwan have been discharged from the hospital after recovery.

Xinhua reported that autopsy on the bodies of two patients who died from COVID-19 was finished Sunday in Wuhan, and the autopsy results have been sent for further examination, a local hospital said. The autopsy results have been sent for further examination for researchers to study the pathology of COVID-19 to understand the pathogenicity and lethality of the disease and better treat patients in critical or severe conditions.
