TCM applied in over 80% the treatment of recovered patients

According to Monday's press conference on epidemic prevention and control in Chongqing, among 207 discharged patients after recovery from COVID-19 as of February 16, all together, 167 recovered patients had been treated with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), accounting for more than 80% of the discharged total.

TCM has unique advantages and great potential in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.  It has played an important role in the treatment of patients with mild symptoms, as well as severe and critical cases.  For patients with mild symptoms, the main advantages of TCM are in controlling the further development of the disease, delaying or blocking the medical condition into severe or critical.  For severe and critical cases, the integration of TCM with western medicine can reduce organ damage, etc.

In addition, the number of newly confirmed cases in Chongqing every day has declined for seven consecutive days and less than 10 cases per day in the past three days.  Starting from February 11, the daily new confirmed cases and current hospitalized cases have both decreased, indicating the effectiveness of previous epidemic prevention and control measures.

Donated plasma for clinical application

The 400 ml of plasma given by two patients recovered from COVID-19 at the Chongqing Blood Center, after preparation and testing, will be transferred to designated hospitals for severe and critical patients to receive convalescent plasma therapy.

At present, 15 patients recovered from COVID-19 are willing to donate plasmas. The designated blood centers for plasma collection are the Chongqing Blood center in the downtown, and the blood stations of Wanzhou, Fuling, Qianjiang, and Nanchuan districts.

Differentiated measures for production and work resumption

Chongqing Liangjiang New Area has formed an orderly pattern of resumption of production and work by area, category, step, and population.  It is worth-mentioning its adoption of dividing different regions by three colors- red, yellow, and green to carry out differentiated measures for epidemic prevention and control.

Red areas focus on the epidemic and slowing down to resume work and production.  The yellow regions need to do a good job of preventing and controlling the COVID-19, as well as resuming work and production at the same time.  For example, companies involving workers returning from other regions outside Chongqing fall into this category. The key enterprises with a good management foundation and adequate prevention and control measures are classified as green areas.  These enterprises are encouraged to work at full capacity to promote the resumption of production and work. As of 12:00, February 17, the operating 388 enterprises had no report of suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The overall confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 72,436 by the end of Monday, and 1,868 people had died of the disease, according to the National Health Commission (NHC) Tuesday. A total of 12,552 people had been discharged from the hospital after recovery. By the end of Monday, 60 confirmed cases, including one death had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 10 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 22 in Taiwan, including one death. Two patients in Hong Kong, five in Macao, and two in Taiwan have been discharged from the hospital after recovery.

The number of China's daily new confirmed cases of COVID-19 outside Hubei has been dropping for a fourteenth consecutive day, according to the NHC Tuesday.

According to Xinhua news, the proposals to postpone China's "two sessions", a key event in the country's political calendar, came out Monday in a timely and responsible manner, as the latest evidence that China is trying its best to buy time for the world to contain the outbreak of novel coronavirus or COVID-19. The openings of the annual sessions of the National People's Congress, China's highest organ of state power, and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top political advisory body, had been held on March 5 and March 3, respectively, since 1998.

In addition, Chinese experts, based on the result of clinical trials, have confirmed that Chloroquine Phosphate, an antimalarial drug, has a certain curative effect on COVID-19, a Chinese official said Monday.
