Chongqing downtown as high-risk for its populous density

Chongqing has classified its regions as high-, medium-, and low-risk areas and implemented differentiated measures. Its downtown areas are labeled as high-risk for its populous density, and all the areas' risk levels are dynamic.

Low-risk area:  There are no confirmed cases in this area or no new confirmed cases for 14 consecutive days. The low-risk area focuses on preventing external importation.

Medium-risk area: There are new confirmed cases within 14 days in this area, but the cumulative confirmed cases did not exceed 50, or the cumulative confirmed cases exceeded 50, and no clustering outbreaks occurred within 14 days. The medium-risk area focuses on preventing external importation and internal proliferation.

High-risk area: Accumulated cases exceeds more than 50 confirmed cases in this area, with clustering outbreaks occurring within 14 days. The high-risk area focuses on preventing external importation, internal proliferation, and exportation.

The overall confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 75,465 by the end of Thursday, and 2,236 people had died of the disease, according to the National Health Commission (NHC) Friday. A total of 18,264 people had been discharged from the hospital after recovery. By the end of Thursday, 68 confirmed cases including two deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 10 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 24 in Taiwan including one death. Five patients in Hong Kong, six in Macao and two in Taiwan have been discharged from hospital after recovery.

Five technical approaches are adopted to accelerate the development of vaccines against COVID-19, according to the press conference of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council on Friday Morning. At present, some projects have entered the stage of animal testing.  Under the premise of ensuring safety and effectiveness, it is expected that the fastest vaccine will be submitted for clinical trials around late April, or it will strive for emergency use under specific conditions.

The overall epidemic trend in the Chinese mainland is positive, which shows that the outbreak is under control. However, in terms of new deaths in Wuhan and Hubei at large, the great importance needs to be attached to it. Four declines involve the total number of new confirmed cases, the number of new daily confirmed cases in provincial-level regions outside Hubei, the number of new daily confirmed cases in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak and other cities in Hubei. The daily number of newly recovered patients has been rising rapidly to 2,109 on Thursday, surpassing that of new confirmed infections for the third consecutive day.
