What Should You Consider When Taking a Flight During the COVID-19 Outbreak?

As enterprises gradually resume work and production, flights and passenger flow in Chongqing Airport have been restored, but efforts should be continuously made in epidemic prevention and control. Here are some kindly reminders for taking air-flight during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Passengers should wear masks and have their body temperature measured before entry Chongqing Airport.

Passengers should fill in the relevant information truthfully according to the staff’s instructions at the current stage. They should wear gauze masks and have their body temperature measured. Passengers with normal body temperature will be allowed to board.

For those with abnormal body temperature, Chongqing Airport will quickly send them to a medical observation site for investigation and further treatment. To reduce contact, Chongqing Airport has also optimized the distribution of check-in seats for departing passengers and arranged passengers to sit separately based on the situation of flight seats.

Passengers should keep a 1-meter distance when accepting safety checks.

Passengers arriving at Chongqing Airport (i.e., those who have been staying in China or taking domestic flights) should be subject to relevant inspections such as infrared contactless body temperature detection. The passengers with average body temperature will be allowed to leave. After arriving in Chongqing, they should report to his/her work unit or community or the management authorities of his/her residence/hotel in time, and the local authorities will conduct follow-up management.

Also, a “vertical ventilation system” has been specifically designed for the aircraft to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. With this system, the air is basically “discharged from the cabin from each row,” preventing the air from flowing back and forth, and reducing the chance of multiple rows of passengers “breathing together.” The high-efficiency particulate air filtration system (HEPA) has also been adopted to protect passengers.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China has provided specific guidance on which anti-epidemic items can be carried on the plane, involving masks, ethyl alcohol, and hand sanitizer. There are no restrictions on carrying everyday personal protective items that do not pose a safety hazard, such as surgical masks, N95 masks, gloves, goggles, soap, and ordinary protective clothing. It is worth noting that electronic thermometers (including batteries) can only be carried with passengers, and mercury thermometers should be consigned in a protective box.

According to the Regulation on the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, passengers cannot carry (or consign) ethyl alcohol, hand sanitizer and other items with an alcohol content exceeding 70%. Disinfection products with an alcohol content of no more than 70% cannot be taken on the plane, but they can be consigned. They should be consigned in retail packaging, and the capacity of each bottle should not exceed 500 ml, allowing a reasonable amount for personal use. For sterilized cotton pads sealed in a separate small package, if the alcohol liquid has been wholly absorbed without free liquid, and the package is intact, passengers are allowed to bring a reasonable amount for personal use during the outbreak!
