Construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle Progresses at A Fast Pace

The first meeting of the Sichuan-Chongqing Party and Government Joint Conference for Promoting the Construction of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle took place on March 17, attracting great attention from people of all circles in the two cities. Many people said in the interview that this implies that the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle has entered a new stage featuring high-level promotion and comprehensive deepening. Efforts will be made to seize the major strategic opportunities in the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, make overall progress in epidemic prevention and control as well as economic and social development, make every effort to minimize the impact of the epidemic, and strive to stimulate Chongqing’s high-quality development.

The two-way linkage between Chengdu and Chongqing furthers opening-up

Zhang Zhikui, Director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, stated that the Municipal Commission of Commerce will focus on the extensive consultation, joint development and shared benefits of international open corridors such as the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, the collaborative innovation and development of open platforms such as the free trade pilot zone, the co-creation of an internationally open and cooperative environment, and the integrated construction of the commodity market system. In this respect, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce will carry out all-round, multi-field and in-depth exchanges and cooperation with Sichuan, and accelerate the high-level coordinated opening-up and high-quality innovation and development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.

Liu Qi, Director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, said at the meeting that Chengdu and Chongqing will set up two-way linkage, carry out planning and layout, promptly start the construction of the cultural and folk tourism industry cluster of the two cities, and advance the co-building and sharing of cultural tourism products and preferential policies of the two cities.

Efforts are made to build a dual-core international comprehensive transportation hub

Transport will take precedence to expedite the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.

Chen Yao, Deputy Director of the Western China Development Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that this year marks the beginning of the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle. It is a task of top priority to lay a foundation for the follow-up work through making up for traffic shortcomings and improving the promotion mechanism.

Xu Ren’an, Secretary of the CPC Committee and Director of Chongqing Traffic Bureau said that transport would take precedence to expedite the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle. To this end, the transportation departments of the two places will actively plan to accelerate the construction of major channels from Chongqing and Sichuan, supplement the weakness in the infrastructure, and build a modern integrated transportation system for the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle. The related departments will also hammer at fostering a dual-core and multi-layer traffic layout in the two cities and the most competitive and influential international comprehensive transportation hub in inland China, and building a leading demonstration zone for the construction of a country with strong transportation network with characteristics of the two cities.

In the future, the transportation departments of Sichuan and Chongqing will jointly accelerate the construction of the main railway network, speed up the construction of inter-provincial highway networks, boost the cooperative development of shipping centers in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and further the integrated development of regional transportation. In addition, concerted efforts will also be made in creating the one-hour Chengdu-Chongqing traffic circle.

The two sides will jointly prepare a comprehensive three-dimensional traffic network planning for the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, strengthen regional connectivity, and accelerate theconstruction of national and provincial trunk lines in areas adjacent to Sichuan and Chongqing. The two sides will also strengthen the overall planning and coordination of shipping systems in the Chengdu-Chongqing region, build the international shipping center on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and foster a high-quality modern logistics system based on the advantages of technological innovation and transportation industry in the two cities.
