COVID-19 Update: A Trial Protocol on Recovered COVID-19 Patients Released in China

  • There were 1,353,361 confirmed cases (73,639 new) globally, and 79,235 people (6,695 new) have lost their lives by 10:00 CET April 8, according to the daily COVID-19 situation report released by the World Health Organization.

And 61of them were imported cases, bringing the total number of its kind to 1,103. Also, on Wednesday, 56 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were reported on the mainland.
  • Xinhua reported that a trial protocol on recovered COVID-19 patients' quarantine, return visits to doctors, re-testing, and health monitoring has been released by the State Council joint prevention and control mechanism against the novel coronavirus.

There were 1,353,361 confirmed cases (73,639 new) globally, and 79,235 people (6,695 new) have lost their lives by 10:00 CET April 8, according to the daily COVID-19 situation report released by the World Health Organization (WHO). One new country/territory/area reported cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours: Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

At the media briefing on COVID-19 on April 8, the WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus briefed on WHO's work in five areas: supporting countries in building their capacity to prepare and respond; together with numerous partners providing accurate information and fight the infodemic; ensuring supplies of essential medical equipment for frontline health workers; training and mobilizing health workers, and accelerating research and development. The WHO chief said, "For the past 100 days, our unwavering commitment has been to serve all people of the world with equity, objectivity, and neutrality. And that will continue to be our sole focus in the days, weeks, and months ahead."

Xinhua reported that a trial protocol on recovered COVID-19 patients' quarantine, return visits to doctors, re-testing and health monitoring has been released by the State Council joint prevention and control mechanism against the novel coronavirus. According to the protocol, recovered COVID-19 patients should stay in quarantine for 14 days either at home or in an isolation center for medical observation.

The Chinese mainland reported 63 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, according to the National Health Commission (NHC) April 9. And 61of them were imported cases, bringing the total number of its kind to 1,103. Also, on Wednesday, 56 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were reported on the mainland. At the same time, fifteen were confirmed of being infected with the virus, and 32 were discharged from medical observation, according to the NHC. A total of 1,104 asymptomatic-infected patients were still under medical observation. The overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 81,865 by the end of Wednesday, including 1,160 patients who were still being treated, altogether 77,370 patients who had been discharged after recovery, and 3,335 people who died of the disease. By Wednesday, 960 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 45confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 379 in Taiwan, including five deaths. A total of 264 patients in Hong Kong, ten in Macao, and 67 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
