Stable and Orderly Cultural Tourism Market on May 1 in Chongqing

Chongqing- On the evening of May 1, according to the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development, the scenic spots are accessible to visitors at off-peak hours with a minimum visitor capacity on the first day of May Day holiday, and visitors need to make reservations first. As the scenic spots are opened orderly, there are no safety accidents or major complaints. The cultural tourism market runs in a stable and orderly way.

During the May Day holiday, Chongqing cultural tourism departments have launched a variety of online and offline activities.

As of May 1, 52,921 cultural tourism enterprises in Chongqing have resumed work, with a resumption rate of 83.8%, while the rate of cultural tourism enterprises above designated size reached 84.5%. There are 190 key projects in the cultural tourism industry under construction. With epidemic prevention and control measures in place, all the projects have been resumed, with a resumption rate of 100%.

During the May Day holiday, Chongqing cultural tourism departments have launched a variety of online and offline activities while ensuring epidemic prevention and control. For offline activities, tourists may have easy access to the “Photography Exhibition: Collection of Chongqing Art Museum”, the first Hydrangea Festival in Kaizhou District, Tianzhu Peony Festival in Dianjiang County, and Hongchiba Azalea Festival in Wuxi County. For online activities, there are online art teaching courses and display of works on COVID-19 prevention and control held by professional art troupes in Chongqing. There are also 130 online activities held by public libraries and cultural centers (stations) in districts and counties.

During the May Day holiday, tourists enjoyed an orderly tour of the scenic spot.

On May 1, Chongqing's 53 museums were opened to the public, receiving about 10,000 visitors in a safe and orderly way. Some cultural and tourism commissions at the district and county level succeeded in stimulating the market by issuing digital consumption vouchers and by organizing live-streaming promotions and online festivals.

To implement the epidemic prevention and control requirements and enhance supervision and inspection, Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development has also organized 10 special supervision teams and paid unannounced visits to key tourist attractions in 20 districts and counties of Chongqing. On May 1, there were no safety accidents or major complaints and the cultural tourism market ran in a stable and orderly way.

The Commission reminds us that major scenic spots will see travel peaks with the continuation of the holiday, especially key scenic spots such as Ciqiko and Hongya Cave (at night). Scenic spots should strictly follow the requirements of “peak shifting, flow control, and reservation-based visit”. Tourists are advised to protect themselves and keep the social distance. Those who haven’t made reservations are not suggested to head for popular scenic spots.
