COVID-19 Update: China Hopes American People Bring the Outbreak under Control As Soon As Possible

The spokesperson briefed that according to incomplete statistics, as of May 6, Chinese provinces, cities, institutions, and companies had donated more than 9.6 million masks, 500,000 boxes of testing reagents, 305,900 pairs of medical and other gloves, 133,500 pairs of goggles and other medical supplies to 30 states and 55 cities in the US. Moreover, according to Chinese customs statistics, from March 1 to May 5, China had provided more than 6.6 billion masks, 344 million pairs of surgical gloves, 44.09 million sets of protective gowns, 6.75 million pairs of goggles and nearly 7,500 ventilators to the US.

The Chinese mainland reported one new confirmed case of COVID-19 Thursday, according to the National Health Commission (NHC) May 8. Also on Thursday, sixteen new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were reported on the mainland, while no one was confirmed of being infected with the virus and 42 were discharged from medical observation, according to the NHC. A total of 854 asymptomatic-infected patients were still under medical observation. The overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 82,886 by the end of Thursday, including 260 patients who were still being treated, altogether 77,993 patients who had been discharged after recovery, and 4,633 people who died of the disease. By Thursday, 1,044 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 45 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 440 in Taiwan including six deaths. A total of 944 patients in Hong Kong, 40 in Macao, and 347 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
