Chongqing Has 224,000 Health Professionals by End of 2019

By the end of 2019, Chongqing had 287,000 health workers, including 224,000 professionals and 46,000 with intermediate and senior titles, released Chongqing Health Commission on May 27.

In the meantime, Chongqing has stepped up efforts to coordinate press ahead of the development of talent and disciplines, fully implemented the three major medical programs, and strive for opportunities to develop national development platforms. Through these programs, it has cultivated one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 12 state-level high-level talented people, 60 provincial-level and ministerial-level local talented personnel, two state key laboratories, one national engineering center, one national clinical research center, and 17 state key disciplines. Chongqing has gradually built a health personnel team consisting of strong high-level talent, excellent mid-level talent, stable grassroots-level talent.

In terms of medical technology, the total number of visits to medical and health institutions in Chongqing reached 175.49 million in 2019, an increase of 9.89% over the same period in 2018. The first batch of 23 young and middle-aged medical professionals was evaluated after three-year training, and remarkable results were made. Specifically, they conducted a total of 81 innovative clinical technologies with the interventional pulmonology techniques filling the technological gap in Chongqing, western China, and even in the whole country, published 43 high-quality SCI papers and led 61 scientific research projects.

In the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak, Chongqing sent a total of 1,636 medical workers (excluding those from military hospitals) in 18 batches to Hubei Province, which was hit hardest by the epidemic. These medical workers took care of a total of 4,299 patients, among whom 2,494 were cured and discharged from hospitals. Chongqing also selected 122 experts to set up a municipal expert team to offer treatment services at emergency hospitals. A total of 579 confirmed cases were admitted and treated in Chongqing.

A large number of outstanding medical worker models have emerged amid the outbreak. Chongqing has offered temporary subsidies and allowances to these medical workers at the front line of the epidemic fight and granted honors and awards to those making outstanding contributions.

According to Wang Ling, Director of the Human Resources Department of Chongqing Health Commission, in order to retain talented people, Chongqing must adhere to the service concept, strengthen ideological guidance, and enhance the sense of belonging and honor of talent. Chongqing should also implement a one-stop talent service model and effectively solve the last mile problem in serving talent, and increase the construction of international hospitals and provide convenient and diverse medical and health-care services for high-level talent. At the same time, it is necessary to create a positive public opinion atmosphere and enhance the career pride of health professionals.
