Chinese Medical Expert Team Ends Mission in Algeria, Proceeds to Sudan

On May 28, a team of Chinese medical experts ended the mission to help tackle the COVID-19 in Algeria and departed for Sudan by chartered plane to support Sudan's anti-epidemic efforts with China's good practice and experience. Chinese Ambassador to Algeria Li Lianhe and Algerian government officials saw them off at the airport.

Consisting of 20 medical experts from China's Chongqing Municipality and Macao SAR, the team arrived in Algeria on May 14, with over RMB 3 million medical supplies donated by the Chinese government.

In Algeria, the team conducted frequent exchanges with Algerian officials and medics on COVID-19 prevention and control and held two symposiums with the Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform and the National Science Council; visited Algeria's designated hospitals for COVID-19 treatment many times such as Bab El Oued hospital, Mustapha Pacha hospital and Aïn Defla hospital for experience exchanges with local medics; and visited the Algerian Central Pharmacy, the Pasteur Institute of Algeria and the National Institute of Public Health. Through these activities, the team has provided a comprehensive snapshot of what China has done and achieved in epidemic prevention and control, and had extensive experience exchanges with Algerian counterparts on clinical treatment, hospital-acquired infection control, medicine administration, testing strategy, discharge standards, discharged patient management, medical supplies allocation, and all-around epidemic prevention and control after resuming work and production. 

The team also carried out online and on-site seminars and training to educate Chinese organizations, enterprises, and medical teams as well as Chinese and overseas Chinese in Algeria about epidemic prevention and control, making local Chinese and overseas Chinese more aware of the virus and be more able to protect themselves from getting infected.
