Last year, 70 new Taiwan-invested enterprises were located in Chongqing, increasing the number of Chongqing-based Taiwan-invested enterprises to 1,795; Taiwanese investment in actual use reached 6.293 billion US dollars, marking that Taiwan has become Chongqing's fourth-largest trading partner, according to the 2020 Work Conference of Chongqing on Taiwan-related Affairs.
In 2019, Chongqing systematically implemented the "31 Measures", "26 Measures" and "Chongqing-Taiwan 59 Measures" on Taiwan-related work, which have provided equal treatment for Taiwan enterprises and businessmen in Chongqing, facilitating the operation of GLC project and Chongqing branch of Fubon Bank and cutting taxes and fees for over 200 Taiwan-invested enterprises.
In terms of grassroots-level exchanges, Chongqing invited a total of 1,228 people of 39 groups from Taiwan to visit Chongqing for communication and exchanges last year, which has helped 102 towns, villages, and associations in Chongqing and Taiwan to build up a friendship. In 2019, a total of 1,508 direct passenger flights strengthened the connection between Chongqing and Taiwan, seeing a ridership of nearly 230,000; a total of 246 direct cargo flights took off and landed in Chongqing and Taiwan, transporting 18,000 tons of cargo.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Taiwan Affairs Office of CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, facing the sudden outbreak of COVID-19, Chongqing's Taiwan-related work system has taken proactive actions to implement policies and measures to support the work and production resumption of enterprises, to help Chongqing-based Taiwan enterprises to resume work and operation in an orderly manner. By far, 99% of Chongqing's Taiwan-invested enterprises have resumed work and production, and all Taiwan-invested enterprises in the manufacturing industry have gone back on track.
In 2020, Chongqing will further promote Chongqing-Taiwan cooperation, take measures to serve the industrial layouts of high-end manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, and green manufacturing, intensify efforts to attract Taiwanese investment in the fields of the integrated circuit, biomedicine, eco-agriculture, cultural creativity, and health care, and strive for new achievements in Chongqing-Taiwan cooperation in economy and trade, science and technology and talent, said the person in charge.
