Poetic Traditional Villages of Primitive Simplicity in Chongqing

Having raised one generation after another, those traditional villages now hide behind cities. When it comes to the historical, poetic, and unsophisticated traditional villages in Chongqing, how many of them cross your mind?

On July 8, Chongqing Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau and Chongqing Geographic Information Center jointly released the Map of Traditional Villages in Chongqing as its Monthly Map. Among the first batch of Chongqing, traditional villages announced the other day, and there are 22 villages included in and five recommended in the Map. Let's follow the Map and explore the unsophisticated villages with poetic charm.

Yangjiacao, Datianchi Village, Luoqi Town, Yubei

Yangjiacao, Datianchi Village, Luoqi Town, Yubei

Located in the northeast of Luoqi Town and the demonstration zone of the rural revitalization of the Guluo Ring Line, Datianchi Village is one of the "frontline" for the revival of the Yubei villages. The characteristic folk villages make a beautiful landscape along the Guluo Ring Line. Meanwhile, the protection and renovation of the original ancient trees, monuments, and houses in the area achieve integration of historical connotation and modern facilities, as well as a unique beauty of tranquility, making the villagers remember the feeling of nostalgia.

Tanjiazhai, Xinjian Village, Xiaonanhai Town, Qianjiang

Tanjiazhai, Xinjian Village in Xiaonanhai Town, is the first Tujia Ecological Museum and the largest Tujia original ecological settlement in China. Xinjian Village is a Tujia-inhabited area, where they have lived by the water, and 13 Tujia villages remain there, enriching the town with rich humanism and ethnic customs. The culture of maternal leaders has also been passed on till now, endowing the village with a mysterious legacy of matriarchal tribes. 

Chayuangou, Dabao Village, Sanyi Township, Shizhu

Chayuangou, Dabao Village in Sanyi Township, is backed by Huangshui National Forest Park, a well-known summer resort in Chongqing. Chayuangou is a picturesque place with pleasant scenery where people can enjoy the flowers in spring, pick up fruits in summer, feast their eyes with a raging scene in autumn, and appreciate the northern scenery in winter. Tujia people in Chayuangou are so hospitable that the guests can taste Yinmi tea and other Tujia-featured cuisines.

Located in Youyang, Chongqing, Qiuguzhai of Shanyang Village is surrounded by mountains and gurgling streams. The antique residential buildings bring the secluded mountains some sort of vitality. Besides the ancient village scenery, the boundless raging scene of maple leaves is just a feast for the eyes in autumn.

Luojiatuo Miao Village in Anzi Town is one of the first villages with Chinese minority characteristics. In Luojiatuo stand over 250 timber-structure stilted buildings, and over 350 Miao people of more than 80 families live here. Getting its name from the married surname of all its villagers--Luo Luojiatuo has a history of more than 500 years. It is the largest and well-preserved Miao Village in Chongqing. The timber-structure stilted buildings built against the mountains are well-proportioned and located closely, and the melodious Miao songs are renowned throughout the country.
