China’s Deepest Underground Subway Station Under Construction

According to Chongqing Rail Transit Design and Research Institute on July 22, the firing shaft of the first-phase project at Hongyancun Station for Line 9 designed by the institute and undertaken by China State Construction Engineering Corporation was accomplished after six months of construction.

The construction site of the largest underground subway station in the country.

Hongyancun Station is deep underground, with the maximum buried depth of track about 116 meters and that of vault about 99 meters. After completion, it will become the subway station deepest underground in China.

The shaft with a diameter of about 14 meters will be equipped with four high-speed elevators. The lifting height is about 99 meters and the speed 2.5 meters per second, which means it takes about 40 seconds to go out of the station.

Hongyancun Station is located at the junction of Yuzhong District and Shapingba District, and between Jingwei Avenue and Shabin Road. It connects the upper and lower parts of the city, a peculiar position that brings out the unique mode of transportation. Citizens will be able to travel to and fro between the upper and lower parts through the station.

Zou Guangjiong, director of the Civil Engineering Department of Chongqing Rail Transit Design and Research Institute and responsible person for structure in this project, said that the shaft would be the first round one equipped with high-speed elevators as access in China.

There are one fire elevator and three passenger elevators in the shaft, each able to take about 23 people. The lifting height is about 99 meters and the speed 2.5 meters per second, which means it takes about 40 seconds to go out of the station.
