Chongqing- The 2020 China (Chongqing) Night-time Economy Development Forum, held in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality on August 1, focused on developing urban night-time economy and unleashing new consumption driving force to discuss on the development trend and future of China’s night-time economy.
In the city dialogue session of this forum, representatives from 7 cities- Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Changsha discuss on night-time economy development in Chongqing, China, on August 1.
The night-time economy has become an important component of the modern urban economy and can promote market prosperity, consumption expansion, and economic growth. Chongqing, driven by the development of the night-time economy, topped the list of China's Top Ten Night Economic Influential Cities in 2019. Jiefangbei, Guanyinqiao, and Ninth Street represent as popular places of night-time consumption for local residents and tourists.
In the city dialogue session of this forum, representatives from 7 cities- Tianjin, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Changsha talked about two topics, one being how to make the city’s night-time consumption forms richer, more creative and cultural and the other being how to achieve differentiated development based on city characteristics. In-depth discussions were carried out from the aspects of people-to-people exchange, history, cultural creation, and business innovation. According to their respective development status, these representatives detailed the experience of building the core competitiveness of the night-time economy.
In the project sharing session, the representative from Yuzhong District of Chongqing shared the successful operation experience of Jiaochangkou Night Market, the representative from Chengdu talked about the cross-border integration of Huaxi 528, the representative from Xi’an mentioned the innovative layout of Laochenggen Pedestrian Street, the representative from Wuhan shared the uniqueness of Chu River and Han Street, an example of combing Chinese and foreign elements.
Participants generally believed that these four representative projects are closely integrated with the local nature, architecture, local people, and consumption characteristics, providing more classic cases and experiences for the development of the night-time economy across the country.
In addition, the Chongqing Night-time Economy Development Alliance initiated by 14 companies was formally established at the forum. The alliance announced that Chongqing’s night economy has entered a new stage of development, and would jointly build the city brand that Chongqing never sleeps, and promote Chongqing’s night-time economy construction to a higher level.
