Western Railroad Lays Golden Tourism Corridor between Chongqing and Gansu

Chongqing- On August 4th 2020, the signing ceremony was held for deepening cooperation between Chongqing and Gansu Province in the expansion of the peripheral tourism market, which took place in the Yubei District of Chongqing.

Director and party secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Culture and Tourism Committee Mr. Liu Qi delivers a speech at the signing ceremony for greater cooperation in tourism between Gansu and Chongqing.

The agreement enacts the strategic framework and cultural tourism provisions drawn up between the two governments back in 2019, and will serve to clarify the development of cultural tourism through distinct and effective measures.

Following the national resumption of inter provincial tourism, the Gansu Province Department of Culture and Tourism was the first to convene a multi government-enterprise task force with the aim of promoting tourist routes between provinces.

A promotional strategy designed by Gansu Province is the Western Railroad Tourism Line, which has formed a mutually beneficial 'Golden Bridge’ between Gansu Province and its long standing partner, the Chongqing Municipal Culture and Tourism Committee.

Vice deputy of the Gansu Publicity Committee and Party Secretary of the Provincial Culture and Tourism Department Mr. Chen Weizhong emphasized how Gansu and Chongqing both drink from the Jialing River and enjoy a long relationship of trust as mutual sources of tourism.

'Chongqing is a hub between the land and maritime silk roads thanks to its status as the sole municipality in Western China, and its central position upstream on the Yangtze Economic Belt. As tourism continues to see rapid growth in Chongqing, there are great prospects for mutual development with Gansu Province based on the vast resources of the ancient Silk Road, which serves as a golden corridor for tourism.'

The signing ceremony was followed by a traditional performance of the Gansu song and dance.

The Western Railroad Tourism Line has been described as the land-based equivalent to a cruise ship, and whilst all precautions are taken in the interests of epidemic control, the travel routes offer plenty of opportunity for new experiences in cultural tourism and products.

Exotic destinations have always enjoyed great appeal with tourists, and so the differing landscapes, climates, history, food and culture between Gansu and Chongqing offer enormous potential for cooperation in tourism.

The director and party secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Culture and Tourism Committee Mr. Liu Qi spoke during the ceremony, ‘Gansu and Chongqing are both western cities in our motherland and are important strategic locations on the One Belt One Road initiative. We have a long-standing foundation in partnership, which the new Lanzhou-Chongqing Railroad, and construction of the land-sea passage in Western China will only serve to strengthen further.

A line of stalls displayed a rich variety of Gansu products for guests to study and enjoy.

‘It is my hope that the Western Loop Train Line will prove the catalyst for strengthened partnership in mutual tourism, as well as driving visitor numbers in peripheral cities and quickening the pace in high-quality development.’

Over the course of the event, guests toured a Western Railroad train featuring traditional Gansu decor at Chongqing North Station.

Following the signing ceremony, representatives of Gansu tourism presented the rich variety of unique attractions, including the Mogao Caves and Great Wall at Jiayuguan. Performers also took the stage in traditional costume to display Gansu song and dance, while a line of stalls exhibited specialty products for guests to study and enjoy.
