Chongqing Launches Dredging and Disinfection Work after Flood

Between August 21 and 22, as the flood in Chongqing gradually receded, sanitation workers, soldiers, and volunteers took to the street to clean up the city.

The flood left a lot of mud and garbage on the main road of Nanbin Road, with the thickest layer reaching 50 centimeters. To help the community where restore order and get back to life as soon as possible, many workers and volunteers set off to clean up the mud. The two main sections were from Yanyu Park of Nanbin Road to Longmenhao Road and the section from Yanyu Park to Xiaoyue Road. Over the past 24 hours, officers and soldiers have been working hard with shovels and brooms to clear up mud, dredge ditches, and sweep streets.

On the evening of August 22, Yuzhong District organized municipal administration departments, environmental sanitation department, fire departments, militia, volunteers, and the masses to carry out all-night operations on Jiabin Road and Changbin Road. They worked without rest to help the two roads resume traffic as soon as possible.

At 8:40 p.m., hundreds of sanitation workers, militiamen, and volunteers, with desilting tools, carefully cleaned up the mud on the roadside and under the viaduct. More than 30 forklifts and sprinklers and other large equipment were working back and forth to clean up the dirt on the road.

On August 21, the Economic Development Bureau of Chongqing Economic and Technological Development Zone (CETZ) and the municipal environmental sanitation and greening administration gathered 78 sanitation workers, 15 sprinklers and one garbage collectors to carry out post-disaster drainage, dredging, pollution control and other work on the flooded factory area of about 80,000 square meters of Chongqing Donggang Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. to help the enterprise resume production as soon as possible.

Donggang Shipbuilding is a key enterprise in Nan'an District and CETZ. Its main products include shipbuilding, ship repairing, and steel structure manufacturing. At present, the steel structures of Mingyue Gorge Yangtze River Bridge, Baijusi Yangtze River Bridge, and Nanjimen Yangtze River Bridge are all produced here.

According to Xu Haitao, Section Chief of steel structure business division of the company said with the help of CETZ and other units, the company evacuated the equipment motors in advance, cut off the power distribution cabinets, and promptly transferred the materials and vulnerable parts that could be easily washed away to minimize the impact of the flood. It is expected that production will be fully resumed within three days.
