Last week, Jerry from This is China, and Lee Barrett and Oli Barrett, who runs the YouTube Channel Barrett, came to Chongqing, participating in the i-VISTA Autonomous Vehicle Grand Challenge and the 2020 Smart China Expo and went to Rongchang to experience the rich history and cultural heritage there.

In the two-day busy tour around the expo, Jerry and the Barretts attended the i-VISTA Autonomous Vehicle Grand Challenge. They experienced the latest 5G applications and other smart technology products at various booths at the SCE. They were so impressed by their exciting experience. “Chongqing is a futuristic city,” said Jerry, “These technologies will speed up the process of development and make people’s life much easier.”
They are also surprised by how fast, smart technology has developed in Chongqing and the huge possibilities of their applications in life. “Crime rates will decrease with the help of smart technology because the police will be able to track every abnormal action.” Said Oli. “Also, it will improve the quality of life by gathering and analyzing data to predict diseases or disasters and alarm people in advance.”

A Perfect Combination of Technology and Traditions
During the trip to Rongchang, Jerry, Oli, and Lee learned the history of grass linen, and pottery and tried weaving and making potteries themselves. After the trip, Lee told us that he was so impressed by people’s passion for and dedication to inheriting traditions and culture. “There are still lots of local people who inherit the craftsmanship and pass it from generation to generation.”
Being attracted by well-kept traditional buildings and culture as well as the simple lifestyle of local people in Rongchang, Jerry said: “Chongqing combines tradition and smart technology perfectly. It keeps moving forward and developing rapidly without breaking traditions and culture.”

The Hotel in Chongqing Makes me Feel Like Home
During this trip, Jerry and the Barretts spent the first three nights at Citadines Gaoke Liangjiang Chongqing. They are very satisfied with the service of the hotel and think Citadines is a very nice hotel. “The rooms are excellent, especially at Citadines, as they have washing machines in the room. All the Citadines hotels have been very nice, and I would be happy to stay there again.”
