Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway Starts Construction

Chongqing — On November 9, the construction of the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-speed Railway started. This is the sixth high-speed railway owned by Chongqing after the Chengdu-Chongqing High-speed Railway and the Chongqing-Wanzhou Intercity Railway that has been opened to traffic, as well as the Zhengzhou-Wanzhou High-speed Railway under construction, the Chongqing Station to the Qianjiang Section of the Chongqing-Hunan High-speed Railway, and the Chongqing-Kunming High-speed Railway. After the completion of the Chongqing-Wanzhou high-speed rail, passengers taking the high-speed rail from the central city of Chongqing’s main metropolitan area to Wanzhou District will be shortened from the current 1.5 hours to about 50 minutes.

The Chongqing-Wanzhou high-speed rail project has a total length of 252 kilometers, leading from Chongqing East Station, passing through Fuling District, Fengdu County, and Zhongxian County, and introducing Wanzhou North Station. The high-speed railway has a total of five stations, namely Chongqing East Station, Fuling North Station, Fengdu North Station, Zhongxian Station, and Wanzhou North Station. The design speed is 350 kilometers per hour, the estimated total investment is 52.76 billion yuan, and the total construction period is 4.5 years.

With the successive construction of Chongqing-Wanzhou High-speed Railway, Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-speed Railway, Chongqing-Xi'an High-speed Railway, Zhengzhou-Chongqing High-speed Railway, etc., the construction of Wanzhou regional transportation hub will be further accelerated and will facilitate Kaizhou District's integration into the national high-speed railway network. Chongqing’s central urban area has entered an era of "one-hour" accessibility, which will help the urban agglomeration in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area in Northeast Chongqing to accelerate the demonstration of ecological priority and green development.
