Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle and West China Science Center Summit Forum was held in Chongqing on November 21.
On September 17, 2020, senior officials of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government and China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) convened a meeting, at which they reached a significant consensus on creating the Center for Urbanization and Regional Innovation Pole Development ("the Center" for short).
The Center, jointly built by the CAST, Chongqing Municipal People's Government, Chongqing University, and Sichuan University, will focus on the urbanization and regional innovation pole development, to respond to new trends in regional innovation development and contribute to the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and especially the Western (Chongqing) Science City.
At the same time, the Center is expected to integrate nationwide resources from the government, enterprises, universities, research institutions, and consumers, while introducing and training talent, conducting academic researches, promoting international communication, and offering policy consultation and scientific and technological services. As a result, it can grow into a high-caliber think tank and innovation platform, which is top-notch in west China, first-class at home, and renowned worldwide.
The Center will provide professional, constructive, practical, and useful policy recommendations on the construction of vital innovation platforms and carriers, cultivation of world-class industrial clusters, gathering of high-quality talent, creation of a sound innovation ecosystem, construction of new smart cities, development of the exemplary city of opening-up in inland China and creation of regional innovation poles, addressing of major contradictions in regional economic structures, and promotion of regional integration. All of these are going to be realized through the study of strategic location, basic theories, operating rules, governance, evaluation systems, etc. Thus, it is able to support scientific decision making by the CPC committees and governments in Sichuan and Chongqing and relevant national ministries and commissions.
The Center has already been incorporated into Chongqing's scientific and technological innovation resource introduction action plan, which is to fully support its in-depth participation in the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and especially the Western (Chongqing) Science City, as well as the development of scientific research platforms, the introduction of scientific and technological talent (groups), and scientific and technological project R&D.
