On November 25, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport T3B terminal and the fourth runway project officially started, an important project to accelerate Chongqing to build an international aviation hub and inland opening-up highland.
The project's total investment is about 21.6 billion yuan (about 3.28 billion USD), including 21.1 billion yuan for the airport construction. In the airport, a new runway 3,400 meters long and 45 meters wide and a taxiing system, Terminal T3B with a total area of 350,000 square meters and a ramp accommodating 148 aircraft will be built. ATC and oil supply projects will also be built, and terminal T1 will be renovated.
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport
Upon completion, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport will own four runways, making it rank the top in China by a number of runways. With an annual passenger throughput of 80 million persons, annual cargo throughput of 1.2 million tons, and yearly 580,000 take-offs and landings, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport will see an improvement in its comprehensive support and services and an enhancement in its capabilities to radiate surrounding areas and connect to the international market and in its role as a window open to the outside world. In this sense, it will be built into a modern international aviation hub with Chongqing as the core and radiating to countries and regions along the Belt and Road, thereby supporting Chongqing's ambition to build an inland pacesetter for opening up to promote the opening-up in the western region. Meanwhile, the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity will be improved. Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport will support the two-way opening-up and flow of people, materials, finance, and information by giving full play to Chongqing and Singapore aviation hubs' basic and guiding role.
By the end of 2019, the annual passenger throughput of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport had reached 44.787 million, reaching the design expectation in advance. Its passenger throughput by 2025 is expected to reach 75 million, making it urgent to implement the Terminal T3B and fourth runway project. In 2019, Chongqing launched the preliminary work of the project.
