Asymptomatic COVID-19 Infection Reported in Chongqing from Overseas

Chongqing- Pengshui County has reported an asymptomatic case of COVID-19 in a Chinese traveler who returned from abroad as of December 11th, 2020, according to the Chongqing Municipal Health Commisson Friday.

The woman named Ms. Xu arrived in Xian on a flight from Russia on November 25th and immediately underwent quarantine on entering the country.

Following a negative COVID-19 nucleic acid test on completing her quarantine period, she took a flight to Chongqing the same day.

On arrival, her father collected her father and taken home by car to their residential complex Zhongang Caiyuntai in Jiulongpo District.

Afterward, she made purchases at the delicatessen Holiland in Yangjiaping Pedestrian Street, then dined at the Lu Principal Hotpot Restaurant.

At 3 am on December 10th, her father drove them by private car to their home in Pengshui County named Xiangjiang Haoyuan. She reported her arrival to the local neighborhood committee that morning and had a nucleic acid test sample taken at Pengshui County People’s Hospital that afternoon.

The test result came back positive for COVID-19 on December 11th. Following diagnosis from municipal and county level experts, she was confirmed as an asymptomatic carrier. She has already been placed under medical observation at a designated quarantine center. Ms. Xu had worn a mask in public at all times prior to the test result.

On receipt of the test result, municipal and county authorities immediately conducted epidemiological measures to control the scene, perform nucleic acid tests, and disinfect all relevant locations.

As of 4:30 pm on December 11th, 26 close contacts in Chongqing have been traced along with a further 171 close contacts of the individuals concerned, all of whom have been placed under restrictions for nucleic acid test sampling.

Environmental nucleic acid sampling has already been carried out in relevant locations along with thorough disinfection.
