SW China’s Chongqing’s Integrated Circuit Design Industry Sees the Biggest Growth Nationwide

China Semiconductor Industry Association IC Design Branch 2020 Annual Conference & Chongqing IC Industry Innovation and Development Summit (ICCAD 2020) was held in southwestern China's Chongqing Municipality from December 10 to 11.

This year, Chongqing's integrated circuit design industry saw the biggest growth all over the country, with relevant sales revenue up by 206.1% over last year.

Chongqing's integrated circuit design industry saw the biggest growth all over the country this year.

At the event, over 100 leading integrated circuit enterprises from more than ten countries and regions across the globe displayed their latest products and technologies.

Industries related to integrated circuits involve research and development, design, manufacturing, testing and packaging, and major technologies, including chip manufacturing and design, laying the core foundation for the development of today's electronic information industry.

Wei Shaojun, President of China Semiconductor Industry Association IC Design Branch, said at the Summit that the chip design industry's sales scale directly impacts China's integrated circuit industry's global status.

He added that China's chip design industry grew at an average annual rate of 23.6% during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020). In 2020, China's integrated circuit design industry's sales volume is expected to hit 381.94 billion yuan (about 58.34 billion U.S. dollars), up by about 23.8% over last year.

Notably, Chongqing ranked first in the country with a growth rate of 206.1%, Nanjing ranked second with a growth rate of 123.1%, and Hangzhou ranked third with a growth rate of 60.9%.

"As constant progress is made in the construction of the Western (Chongqing) Science City, Chongqing Xiyong Micro-electronics Industrial Park is accelerating to create a sound eco-sphere for integrated circuit industry and build a semiconductor manufacturing base, with the largest output and the most complete industrial chain in the country," said a relevant head of the Park.

The Western (Chongqing) Science City is making a concentrated effort to build the United Microelectronics Center (CUMEC), which is a collaborative R&D and innovation platform, the semiconductor base with the highest power nationwide, also the largest overseas chip packaging and testing factory of SK Hynix Semiconductor Inc., and others.

The Park's integrated circuit industry continued to grow from January to November despite the sluggish global trade, realizing an output value of 15.249 billion yuan, up 23.78% yearly.
