Chongqing Liangjiang New Area to Build a National IoV Pilot Zone

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said it would support Chongqing (Liangjiang New Area) to build a national pilot zone of Internet of Vehicles (IoV) in a letter of reply to Chongqing Municipal People's Government recently.

The IoV industry is a new industrial form, with deeply integrated such industries as automobile, electronics, information communication, and road transport. Establishing a national IoV pilot zone is critical for the Liangjiang New Area to realize people-vehicle-road-cloud synergy and shape a deeply-integrated, innovative, dynamic, safe, credible, and competitive IoV industrial ecosystem.

The main tasks and goals of the pilot zone include: covering key expressways and urban roads and then the entire road network with C-V2X (Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything) and working to connect it with 5G and smart city development; intensifying technological innovation and product R&D, effectively developing users of vehicle terminals, and leading industrial transformation and upgrading and high-quality development; establishing healthy and sustainable development and operating models, building cloud service platforms featuring open data and connectivity, and forming replicable and worth-promoting experience and practices.

Liangjiang New Area has succeeded in creating such projects as demonstration urban roads (including test roads for intelligent connected vehicles) that stretch for nearly 100 km, the Intelligent Vehicle Integrated Systems Test Area (i-VISTA), and the Airport Industrial Park Smart Logistics 5G Self-driving Project Phase I. It also has built Lijia Intelligent Park, Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone, and other pilot demonstration zones to fuel the large-scale application of IoV.

Under the principles of united planning and simultaneous construction and operation, the IoV Demonstration Zone Project of Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone has completed the 4-kilometer demonstration line, together with Xinqudong Chongqing Intelligent Vehicle Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Changsha Intelligent Driving Institute (CIDI); has developed "vehicle-road-cloud" products, which have an improved ecosystem and adapted functions, as well as demonstration scenarios with connected technologies; has realized demonstration of 29 functions, including 5G-based remote driving and self-driving. The project also satisfies the demands of demonstration and promotion of commercial Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ASDS) and self-driving vehicles' test and operation.
