Chongqing’s GDP Grows by 3.9% in 2020: Government Work Report

Chongqing — At the fourth session of the Fifth Chongqing Municipal People's Congress on January 21st,  Chongqingqing Mayor Tang Liangzhi delivered the Government Work Report. How has Chongqing developed over the past year? And what plans will Chongqing enact in the next year? Here’s a quick overview of the report.

Accomplishments of Chongqing in 2020

In 2020, Chongqing achieved major strategic results in the fight against the epidemic, while economic operations have recovered and stabilized over each quarter.

  • Annual regional GDP increased by 3.9%, while fixed-asset investment, total retail sales of consumer goods, and total import and export value increased by 3.9%, 1.3%, and 12.5% ​​, respectively. The disposable income per capita of all residents reached 30,824 yuan, an increase of 6.6%.

  • All efforts were put into fighting the epidemic, as the two zeroes of locally confirmed and hospitalized cases took two months to achieve.

  • Resumption of work in all trades proceeded with full effort to regain time and recoup losses, as life, order, and production gradually returned to normal.

  • Outstanding issues in the policy of two assurances and three guarantees were resolved in the cause of poverty alleviation.

  • Flood control efforts were initiated at full capacity in response to the level I municipal emergency. During the passage of the No. 5 Yangtze River flood, the levels of which hadn’t been encountered for a century, there were no casualties, dyke breaches, and no dam collapses in the whole municipality.

  • A one-stop mechanism for major foreign investment projects has been established, as foreign capital's actual use over the whole year reached 10.27 billion US dollars.
